Picked up a huge bolt on the way to work today and the tire went completely flat in less than 20 minutes. Currently rolling on a spare.

Anyone able to put a full sized spare in the spare tire well? Was thinking of buying a single PPV steel 20" wheel and seeing if it would fit. Anyone have experience with this?

In that case, I don't see why it wouldn't fit. Size is within an inch or so in diameter of the stock spare and width isn't a limitation since there's nothing underneath. Why not pull one off yours and test fit before buying another wheel/tire?

Diff between the stock 265/70R17 temporary use only spare and the stock 275/60R20 is about 1.4” diameter. I looked under my Yukon XL, seems like it would fit, as there appears to be about an inch of room all around the current spare.

I might be tempted to go with an OEM Aluminum wheel to save weight. And if you match it to your OEM rims, you could include it in the rotation and get a little more life out of your tires. The 275/50R22 is almost the same diameter as the 20” size.

Although, pg 358 of the owners manual implies it won’t fit. See attachment:
275/55r20 is what the PPV runs which why the rumor i heard made it found like it fit. So its not the wheel that decides, its the total diameter. Boo.

Well, I've had no problems so far running full size spare tires on my 2015 Tahoe LTZ; utilizing the rear underside/winch storage area.
@WalleyeMikeIII posted pg. 358 of the owners manual, but that is states about storing a flat tire. I'm hoping this does NOT apply to an aired up spare...knock on wood. Gonna ask the dealer about the spare next time I'm in, that's for sure!

I've had an OE 20" wheel with LT275/60r20 (33.25") and am currently running an OE 18" wheel with LT295/70r18 (34.29") spare.

With it being the new model, with the flat floor, I thought the reason they went with a space saver was because they no longer had the depth from the flat floor, causing the spare tire in full size form, to be low?

I had the spare tire out today to check air pressure and measured the spare area for a larger tire. It’s ~ 35 inches front to rear from the suspension crossmember heat shield to the trailer hitch. It’s also ~ 35 inches side to side from exhaust shield to exhaust shield. I think the issue will be tire width, the factory spare already hangs down below the hitch. I have a 2021 high country suburban with 285/50r22 Toyo at3’s on stock wheels, the factory spare is 265/70r17. I am thinking something like a 255/80r17 may be the best bet for matching my existing tire diameter and not being so wide it hangs down and catches on stuff.

Seems like the best approach would just be:
1) take the temp spare down
2) Install temp spare on one of the wheels
3) Attempt to store the removed regular wheel/tire in the spare location.
4) See if it fits, and how much ground clearance it takes up.

I'm interested in the result of this test as well.

Load Range E tires that are similar in size are 285/60/20 so slightly taller and wider than the factory tires.

I just purchased an extra OEM Wheel with a BF Goodrich KO2 275/60/R20 and it does fit in the spare tire spot. This is on a 2022 Z71. Keep in mind, this is my family car, so the only off road it sees is a trail here and there. I’m not sure if it sits too low to do any serious off roading.

I fully expect an OEM size tire to fit in the spare tire spot.

I'm curious whether something wider and taller like a 285/60/20 would fit in that spare tire spot.

Sorry, I was answering the original poster’s question.

Thanks for sharing pictures. I honestly can’t remember the last time I needed to use a spare but I plan to get a matching for my 23’ AT4 now.
