ALL OF GM Int. is crap....they know this and this why they will not do anything about it.
I am the original owner of my 2000 WS6 , it has 40,000 miles on it, the dash has a 12 in crack, both door poanels are cracked right where the bracket is to keep it from cracking, the T bar starts to bubble trough the paint in the heat, Yes my car stays in the garage. Now for my 07 Yukon XL, that leaks trough the top of the consloe, the dash is cracked by the air bag, the CD does not eject,my mirrors are always at a different postion after shutting it off, my seat doesnt move at times, a code for thje rear gas tank, and it has 67,*** miles .... Way to GO GM taking care of the ones that keep ypou in Buisness.................

Has anybody tried using the "Dash Skin" product found on fleabay? I watched a youtube vid of an install, seems like a cheaper and easier to install alternative for all of us with these cracked dashes.

I'm considering it but would like to see if any of you here have tried it out yet.

My dash has a small crack right where it gets thin around the passenger airbag. I didn't notice it when I bought the Tahoe a year and a half ago, but I think it's always been there. I'd like to find some sort of glue or epoxy or something to patch it up and hide the crack.

I am not sure why this happened... what I can tell you from working on other cars here are some things that I have learned over the years.

1) Never - Ever use Windex or ammonia based cleaners on the inside of your windshield. The vapors fall and when you wipe off the surface to clean the dash you end up removing a small amount of the oils that keep the dash soft. Eventually the dash dries out enough that it shrinks and causes cracks. This is one of those things that does not happen immediately, it may take years for it to show up, it really depends on the plastic itself. - Suggestion, use a microfiber cloth and a spray bottle of water to clean your windshield and windows.

2) Bad plastic from the get-go. Had an 07 Lumina that had the front plastic trim piece that was mis-manufactured. It warped and looked horrible. When I went to remove it I had to take it out in pieces and it literally crumbled in my hands like old dried out mud. I found a good one in a junkyard and simply replaced it.

3) some other chemical could have gotten on the dash and caused it to crack. I have seen things happen like this after a repaint. The vapors from the paint or even a solvent like lacquer thinner were enough to invade the interior and attack the plastic itself... Sounds crazy, and it does not happen immediately, so no one really knows the damage was done until years later in some cases...

Hope that helps.

I agree, furthermore it should be evident to GM that the plastic should be reasonably resistant to chemicals as it is very common to use Windex on windows and windshields.

This, plus I feel like the fasteners might have been over torqued from the factory. The revised part is reinforced which tells me the first design was incorrect. My 2010 Tahoe has the crack at the corner of the passenger airbag which leads straight to the fastener.

It because it is plastic, The Buick, and caddy's do not have this Plastic, so until the Plastic in the Yukon, Camaro is replaced I no longer see either in my collection....

I was denied on my 2008, the GM customer service person I spoke with seemed like they were interested in helping, but figured out that they wanted me to take it to my "preferred dealership" to start the process. The catch, the dealership charges a $99 diagnostic fee to just look at a vehicle. F that! i told them I am not paying a dime for them to tell me my dash is cracked. Spoke to another dealership and they flat out told me that unless it was under warranty GM no longer Goodwills dashes on Chevy full size SUVs. Sure enough GM came back and said I was SOL.

$600ish for a new dash and 6 hours of labor is what I was told it costs to do this out of pocket.

I bought my Tahoe used for $18K, so I am not sweating the crack too much, but I feel bad for you guys who paid 40K or more for your truck

I am almost wondering if my Tahoe has had the dash changed. The dash looks newer than many of the other parts, like the door panels and the airbag look older... I cannot tell the difference in the trim piece by the windshield and the dash itself.

Although I will contend that many cleaners people use on cars are really not good for plastics, the design of the hard plastic dash panel actually sucks to have this happen as often as it does. My Buick Rainer at least had a soft vinyl coating on it, I thought this had it too by looking at it, to my surprise it is a molded hard plastic. I suspect they did not allow for expansion and contraction in the design and when the sun heats up the dash, or a cold cold day, it causes the stress cracks because the screws are too tight or the pins that align the piece do not have enough wiggle room to allow the movement.

Notice that the cracks happen apparently the same place on either side of the dash.

Has anyone considered taking the car to an upholstery shop and have them put a layer of Vinyl on the dash? Tuck the edges under the plastic panels...

I have a 95 TA with 45 ,*** miles on it and it is fine, Now my 2000 WS6 with 34,*** on it has a cracked dash, door panels, the seat bolsters do not work , the t top pillar has bubbles in the clear, My 07 Yukon XL has a crack dash by the Air Bag , that's a Safety issue, this should be a RECALL, the seats move when they want too, the sun roof leaks, the upper console leaks, the CD never ejects before 5 mins, and I also have the solenoid pump from the gas filler code. Thank YOU GM for helping me to decide which name to stay away from when I purchase my next vehicle......

^ that looks like a decent low cost solution. I'd like to see one in person. I'm pretty meticulous.
