Bit the bullet, too. I just ordered some of the P1's. I think at this point they'd be easier to retro into what I'm doing anyway.

Thanks Ezdaar for selling me on these...the thing that really got me over the edge is you're running 50w which is what I will be doing as well.

Soulsea: ?? What's the project?? Behind the grill? Backup lights? Inquiring minds want to know....

So I happen to be by the dealer and saw a new gmc terrain. I noticed what seemed like projector fogs on it. So I went to my buddy at the parts dept and pulled up the part (GM 10335108).

And low and behold:

I wonder if it may be a good alternative instead of the Blazers or Fusions.

I'll try to find a better pic, but they look small and wicked on the terrain. :)

Oh and Tony sells aftermarket clones of them: http://www.1aauto.com/1A/fog-lights...opping&utm_source=google_base&utm_content=LFL

Could be a good find. They are halogen, though, so of course the question will be, "can they handle HID's?"

I'm tapped out...someone else buy some and see how they do. ;)

I posted an ebay link on hidp of someone selling one for $30.

Might be perfect for teh experiment. :)

And it takes H11 bulbs which means it will handle a HIR 9011 bulb. ;)

Plus someone had HIDs on it for 2 years with no issues (see hidp thread)

P1's should be here in the next day or two. Unfortunately, my new 3000k Morimoto 3five 880's are back-ordered with TRS....

Just got the P1's.

A quick check shows that with the projector/halo fogs I bought, if you remove the projector these fit PERFECTLY inside the halo and in the existing bracket/holes. All you need is about 1/4" worth of spacers and slightly longer screws than it comes with. My buddy has some shrouds that fit perfectly in the housing, too, so the P1 projectors + shrouds may fit like a glove (I took out the halos...not a big fan).

Honestly, after closer inspection, externally the projectors are identical. They obviously share the same manufacturer. But the ones that came with the halos have a cheap, flaking chrome finish on the front of the cutoff shield, and the lens is not as clear or high-quality looking. Very interesting. So, the short version is you can get these halos, ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/01-YUKON-DENALI-SIERRA-DENALI-HALO-PROJECTOR-FOG-LIGHT-/130533198014?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3ASierra+Denali&vxp=mtr&hash=item1e646288be ) easily take out the existing, pre-wired, non-HID projector, and sub in a P1. It's a matter of taking two screws out to do it, and the fit will be perfect.

Comparing the P1 output to Blazers and Fusions tonight, but from a pure fitment standpoint, these P1's are going to be simple. I don't even need the mounting bracket they came with. I'm hoping the output is as clean and sharp as the Blazer.

Quick pic of one of the P1's mounted in the preexisting housing bracket. Nicely centered and everything. Just need something to fill the gap around it. This is not the final product, but shows the exactness of the fit. If the projector that came with it wasn't an H3 halogen I'd compare the output of the two to see if there is any difference at all.

Looks good Scott. How about you just make another set for me?! Did you see the guy in HIDP who is doing the same thing you are with his Bonneville (they have the same fog lights.)

Send me the parts and I'd be happy to do it, but seriously this is so simple it'd be a waste of time. If you went with things like they are in that last pic, it'd probably literally take about 10 minutes to do both lights. It's that simple.

Compared output last night to the Blazers. Both are pretty good for their size. The Blazer was a little cleaner, but not hugely, and they are known for failure with 55w HID's, which I plan on using. We tested with 35w. My buddy did get some comparison pics, but he hasn't posted them yet. I'll post over here when he does. He let me have a couple of shrouds he had laying around, so I'm going to try to fit those in the housing with the projector. Should look pretty sharp if I can get them in, but they are going to need significant trimming.

Keith, can you link me to the Bonneville thing on HIDP? I can't seem to find it....

Scott, i found that spacing and correct rotation of the HID bulbs helped alot in mine..

Yeah, one thing we noticed pretty immediately with the P1's is that there was a significant shadow from the return wire of the HID capsule. I'm going to have to orient the bulb so that's not showing up in the foreground lighting. Also noticed that moving the bulb back or forward just a tiny bit can make a huge difference in output, so I'll have to fit each one when they are ready to be installed to get the best light.

Because of the nature of projectors, if you retro them in the reflector is basically going to just be aesthetic. The beam is projected beyond the reflector, basically. They shouldn't make much difference one way or the other.

I'll be posting pics as I go. Tweaked my back today, so I can barely move. I may not get much done this weekend.

Ok, couple more R&D pics. I've now fitted the projectors into some shrouds. I put a black gasket around the shroud to fill the space, but there is still a little gap. Not much, though, and it may be needed for beam adjustment anyway. I think it looks pretty good. I still need to trim the shroud...I'm basically going to cut almost all of the shroud off leaving only the top part that is exposed to lens (and the only part seen aesthetically). It's just a tad too big to fit naturally in the fog light. The top portion of the shrouds will pretty much fill the fog light, so there will be very little gap and it should like a more natural fit than just the projector (although that would've been way easier...I'd be done by now...lol).

I'm hoping to get the shrouds cut and fitted tomorrow. I still need a precision cutting bit for my dremel. From there, I just need to epoxy the gasket in place and screw things together. Once everything is cut it should just go together easily with the two mounting screws. I never seem to have as much time as I want to just sit and work on this, though, so it could take me several days to finish this up.

Here's pics of the projectors in the shrouds:

Grrrr again.

This "little" project has taken on a life of its own. I trimmed down one of the shrouds today and it still wouldn't fit. They are just a tiny bit too big to get in and it's annoying. If I cut any more then there isn't going to be anything left of them. I may as well just screw the projectors into the housing and call it good. I'm spending way too much little unexpected money on this trying to make it pretty. I can make it functional with no problems, but trying to make it aesthetic is a PITA.

Thinking I may go to Home Depot and just wander around and see if I can find some stuff to make it look finished without creating too much more work for myself.

Bud you are way over engineering this..
Think K.I.S.S = Keep, It , Simple, Stupid,....

rubber door trim...
Run something like this around the back side of the Large housing to seal the P1 inside.
180rubber-2.jpg

Theres all kinds from round to blade edge, from 1/4 to 1" thick..
Rubber door trim Noone will ever see it and all you need it for is to keep the inside of the outter glass lense clean on the inside.
Its never going to melt.....

I am real curious to know what those fog shells would look like with some chrome paint on the inside walls and maybe even paint the outside of the P1's chrome..
would probly enhance the total lumen output greatly .
