Fog retro question

I've got an extra set of HID H11 bulbs for cheap if ya need just lemme know. I don't plan on putting them in the Esky so they're just in the garage.

Yup, I will. I think I'm going to order a cheap set of Denali replacement fogs and build the fusion projectors into them. No hurry, but it'll probably only take me a few hours once I get going. Still have to wait on parts to arrive, though.

Thinking about painting the shields so the projectors have color when they are off. Any suggestions on color that would work with my truck?

With a white and chrome truck. I would do white, chrome, maybe black. I dunno what else would work without getting to tacky. Red? Blue? Do you have any colored LEDs on the inside?

Agreed! He has a very clean and "simple" looking truck. Very nice as is.

Thanks, guys. It'd be easy to make it look bad, that's why I'm just toying with the idea. And no color really goes well with my color scheme, or lack thereof, so I am kind of at a loss. I was thinking I might be able to pull off a subdued and dark metallic blue or a black cherry red kind of thing.

I wouldn't normally even consider it, but I'm busting them open anyway to shave the upper shield (increasing foreground light, in theory).

Anyone know who makes a good 3000k bulb?

I don't think dark colors will show very well. I say go with a lighter color, perhaps, a light electric blue.

I'm thinking about retro'ing in MKZ fogs.

The problem I'm having, other than the whole "how do I make a bracket for THAT?" issue, is it's just a projector with an exposed lens. Has anyone figured out a protective lens over the projector lens? I don't want it uncovered, cause it'll get trashed up here in one winter with all the gravel they lay down.

Get your buddy who did your HID retros to fix up somethin!

Yeah, I need to do a little more research on these first. It also occurred to me that I don't know if just the projector is water-tight or if it needs to be in an enclosed housing to protect it. I may just go with the Blazers because I know those are good to go on their own.

I was going to do the same things with morimotos h1s anf haves been going back abd forth with matt trs . But idk I'm having the same problem with the lens

Deffinatley red itd look baddass unless you have leds inside that see a different color the use those

yep, i know that feeling of wanting to do it yourself. That's why I still don't have my headlight retrofit finished! Still working on the Lexus RX-AFS projector retrofit. Put that on the back burner because I got frustrated with getting it just right.

I should maybe get a 35w kit for them too....I've got 55w in there now. Hmm. They are OEM projectors which tend to hold up far better than aftermarket to the higher heat....

I got a set of 2 regular 35w ballasts (used) and a set of 2 new very high quality 6000k hid bulbs. Not sure what they're worth but I'm happy to look into it if you have any use for either.

Thanks man. I've got a set of excellent Matsushita 35w ballasts sitting around, so I'm good there. And I'm leaning toward 3000k-4500k bulbs. I'd just need the right ballast-bulb connector cord for H11's, since these are set up for D2S. I think I'm going to go ahead an try the 55w ballasts. If it blows out the projector (focus-wise) then I'll switch it up. Otherwise it's kind of a waiting game to see the long-term heat effects. Technically it shouldn't be an issue since the normal 55w halogen bulbs are much more hot than an HID capsule, but HID's tend to be a bit longer so they get closer things which can make the difference between melting, scorching, or doing nothing.

Also ordered some Morimoto 5five 50w bulbs for my lows. I wanted Philips but can't see spending nearly $100 on bulbs. Basically I'm trying to get all of my lighting up and working before the snow flies here. Also trying to do the backup lights as written up in the tech section. http://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22066 It uses a funky combo bulb with a 55w halogen and 35w HID in the same capsule. I have the kit, but it is going to take some serious wiring, relays, switches, etc. that is going to take time to get right. Once installed, though, I will have the brightest back-up lights around.

So, at this point I have: -ordered H11 4500k bulbs
-ordered D2S bulbs designed for 50w ballasts
-ordered Ford Fusion/MKZ projector fog lights
-ordered some cheap aftermarket Denali fog lights
to use as a retro platform.

I will almost definitely either totally remove or just not wire up the halos on these, although I am toying with the idea of wiring them into the turn signals, just to be different. I am mainly getting these to have a correctly fitting bracket to build off of and to be able to utilize the front lens for protection for the retro'd projector lens. These were one of the few I could find with a smooth, clear lens. Of this type, these actually appear to be halfway decent in quality. I'll find out when I get them, though.
