First glitch in the process this morning.

The ebay seller where I ordered the Denali fogs decided to randomly try to charge me an extra $35 to ship to Alaska. His ad says free shipping to the United States. Last I checked, Alaska was still a state. And, nowhere does it mention an extra fee to ship here. I wrote him a scathing email back and told him to send me my stuff since I paid what was listed AND what I was billed by PayPal, and that I was not going to pay him anything more since he failed to mention he would require more in his listing.

No reply yet from him, but he's half a step from really pissing me off. :flame:

Getting closer to pissed...still no reply and no shipment.

He's still trying to claim I owe him another $35 even though neither the listing nor my actual bill from PayPal mention it.

I called ebay, they looked it over and told me not to pay anything for shipping because it says free shipping. I emailed and told him that, and that if I don't receive it within 7 days of the date of order I will file an official complaint (you have to wait 7 days per ebay policy). We'll see what he does.

If he doesn't pull his head out, I'll just order from someone else. I hate ebay. 2 of my last 3 buys on there I've ended up dealing with BS. One sale, too. Too many douche bags out there.

Shit. He put the shipping info all the way at the bottom of the page. It's not under the "shipping" tab, which is strangely where I was looking and probably where ebay intends for that information to be. I imagine that's where the ebay chick was looking, too, because she didn't see it way down at the bottom of the page, either.

Why would you not put the shipping info in the "shipping and handling" portion of the listing? I never even looked beyond that tab because it said free shipping in the U.S.

Aaaaaaaarrrrghhhhh

Is it free shipping to the 48 only?

Apparently. The ad is deceptive, though. Under the shipping tab, it says free shipping in U.S. It doesn't specify or exempt anyone, which is what I was going off of. I don't normally look beyond the shipping details tab for shipping info. At the very bottom of the listing in the product description area, below the pictures and descriptions and everything else, he's got his own little shipping table that specifies Hawaii, PR, Virgin Islands add $35. Even on there there is no mention of Alaska. You have to read the text below the table to finally find anything about AK.

I dunno, take a look and tell me if I'm being overly picky and should just pay the shipping:

Screw 'em. I called them and they aren't budging, so I asked for a refund and told them to expect a complaint.

The guy wouldn't even compromise on shipping. I'm willing to pay USPS Flat Rate Priority, but not $35. No go on that. Oh well. The search for another seller is on.

Yeah, I did miss it, but I still maintain that that info should be in the shipping and handling tab. If you click on the "shipping details" button next to where it says free shipping it takes you to that tab where it still says free shipping.

My issue now is that they are basically telling you two rates in the same ad and then only going with the expensive one. eBay agrees with me, too. Either way, they refunded my money and I'll find someone else to buy from.

Hahaha....maybe so...

If I could find some fogs like this without the halos I'd happily buy them. I'm just trying to find a pair that has a clear and smooth lens. Most of them have the little vertical refracting lines in the center, which I don't want with projectors.

Found the same lights for less from a seller who charges a reasonable price for AK shipping, so it all worked out in the end.

Soo...

Where does everyone get their HID bulbs from? I'm running DDM's, but one of my fogs failed pretty fast. Headlights are turning blue faster than they should, so I don't think DDM bulb quality is as good as some and I'm looking for other sources for H11 bulbs. I'd really like to get some foul-weather, high-quality 3000k fogs.

Got the projectors today. Now I just need everything else. They are pretty tiny....not sure why, but I thought they were bigger. They look like they should be fairly easy to work with, though.

:boxed: I under-estimated these lights. Holy crap. They are not easy to get apart. I thought I'd bust one open and take a look at removing the upper shield and seeing what I need to do to paint the other one. They are EXTREMELY well siliconed together. Good grief. It's a good thing I don't care what they look on the backside, cause I've scraped the hell out of them trying to pry them open and cut the seal. Gave up on doing it cold. One is now being baked.

Success! Only problem now is the shield is a molded part of the projector. You can't just take it out as far as I can tell. That is going to make painting it very difficult. May have to skip that step.

They come painted black already, so that option would be easy....lol. There really may be no way to paint them. I can't get them out and can't figure out how to get the lens off to access the front of the shield. I'd have to sand the black off to change colors, and there's pretty much no way to do that without getting through the front where the lens seems to be perma-mounted. Bad iPhone pics are coming....lol.

Inside from rear. I've started Dremeling the upper shield away. Not the steadiest hand in the world, so I've nicked the lower shield a few times. Pretty sloppy. You can see how the shields are one with the rest of the projector and why this is such a pain:

If anyone knows how to remove this lens, let me know ASAP. It is completely in the way.

One taken apart and one whole one. I have to say, if you have a Ford Fusion or other compatible car, these are going to be easy to work with. They attach by snapping into place...no screws or bolts.

I've made some progress on the shield. I should be able to gain enough room to paint the other shield, although it's going to be on top of a black base. I don't think there is any way to sand that off since I can't get that lens off. But, I think it'll be workable.

Goals for today are to get both apart, remove upper shields, and paint lower shields. Still need to make a run to the store to find some paint and pick a color. Ya'll are just going to have to stay tuned to see what I pick. Need some JB Weld and Bondo, too. Then I just have to wait for this first stage to cure and my other parts to come in.
