6L80, 8L90, 10L80 are better at idling than 4L60 / 4L80 ever could be
(newer electronic transmissions are basically in neutral @ idle)
most cars have had electrical power steering & AC for about a decade,
benefits of AutoStopStart - A.S.S. - are proportional to idle time, minimal in stop&go traffic.
A.S.S. that restarts the engine upon relaxing of the brake pedal
is far superior to
A.S.S. that restarts the engine upon pressing of the accelerator.
But either way, it is a pain in the A.S.S.

It works. Most systems work the same. Im sure you guys hated fuel injection when it first came out too lmao.

Than turn it off? Vehicles burn gas idling. Auto start stop saves fuel. And it's seamless in operation. I dont know of any modern system that uses the accelerator to wake up. It shuts off when brakes are depressed and wakes up as soon as you take your foot off the brake.I think it's stupid too. Yes fuel injection won as it should have. It's a performance upgrade in typical daily drivers of today. I don't see where ass is gonna help performance. Mileage, maybe. I also hate tire pressure sensors but guess we're stuck with that too

Not nearly enough to justify the extra development cost, additional wear and tear on whatever A.S.S is used. An engine running in motion is happy, fluids are circulating, electrical system is topped off and ready. HOW is shutting down everything, except the key electrical components a good thing? Yeah, just start the engine 1000's of time for no reason. Oil pressure, no oil pressure. Coolant flow, no coolant flow. Electrical systems in float mode, electrical systems in drain mode accompanied by multiple high amperage in-rush events to spin a starter.....
It's a pathetic attempt to save minimal fossil fuels for the "feel good, A.S.S. pats all around, we're saving the environment" club. Common sense says keep it simple. If the GOVT said that you need to sprint, then sit, then sprint, then sit.........forever, when walking or jogging would be more effective, what would you prefer? Which one would have less wear and tear over time?
I'm glad I don't have anything with that awful system. It should be eliminated. Lastly, since when did starting a vehicle in gear become a "good" idea? This is a product of narrow minded people grasping at straws to stay relevant.......then the rest of the sheep jumped on board too.

You can't force-engineer GREEN into products that inherently aren't. Just like you can't make low fat "Ice Cream" that actually tastes like ice cream does.
All you can do is optimize, and we have essentially optimized the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine, not ice cream). When that's not good enough, come up with a scheme to appease the green cult and get the Science People™ all revved up (pun intended). But all you're doing is putting off the inevitable.
Which is electrification.

If we took a poll we might know what the “vast majority” of people on this forum think. My opinion is it’s useless and annoying.It works. It saves gas. Leave it on a switch like it is. Maybe give the option of turning it off permanently instead of pressing button everytime.

Saving gas? I will check out your link to see. For most of us we didn’t buy these trucks for fuel economy. Less than 2 miles a gallon is pretty insignificant and you can get better than that by driving like a blue hair prius owner. Maybe if your normal commute is many minutes of stopping in traffic constantly. My experience with my 2024 Tahoe with Carbyte device that eliminates auto stop doesn’t show any difference in fuel economy in my experience. I don’t live in a big city and the stops at lights are usually less than 90 seconds.
Also the action of starting a V8 engine in gear doesn’t seem like a good idea and I think the physics and chemistry might show it takes more fuel to stop and start over a given period than just keeping the engine idiling. If there is any science on this I would like to see it before making any statement about significant difference in fuel economy.
