Hi everyone,

Please don't ask how... I somehow managed to lose all of my keys.

Fortunately, I still have one remote fob, so I can lock/unlock the vehicle and use the remote start.

The problem is that I live outside the US(Norway), and my local dealers and locksmiths don't have much experience with this type of issue on US-spec GM vehicles.

From what I've read, some companies in the US can cut a key from the VIN. I emailed Keyless Shop, but haven't heard back yet (they may be on vacation). I also found information saying that a 2009 Tahoe can learn a new transponder key using the 30-minute relearn procedure, as long as you have the correct key.

I've previously programmed additional key fobs myself, so I'm familiar with that process. What confuses me is that I keep reading about needing both the key code (for cutting the key) and the vehicle's security PIN. Some sources say the PIN is required, while others say the 30-minute relearn procedure is enough.

So I have a few questions:

  • Has anyone here gone through an "all keys lost" situation on a 2009 Tahoe?
  • Can a new B111-PT key simply be cut from the VIN and then programmed using the 30-minute relearn procedure?
  • Is a security PIN actually required, or only the key cutting code?
  • Can anyone recommend a reputable company that can supply and cut a key from the VIN and ship internationally?
One more issue: both front windows are rolled down. Since I only have the fob, I can remote start the vehicle, unlock it, and even see the mirrors move to the memory position, but I obviously can't turn the ignition on or operate the windows.

Is there any way to roll the windows up without a working key, or am I going to have to remove the door panel and power the window motor directly?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm not familiar with GM but Ford parts counters can cut a key with proof of ownership. You might contact your local dealer.

Edit -
Sorry, I missed the part that you are out of the country. Would local police department be of any help?

unsure. I'm more worried about the "programming" part regarding the key and security of starting the vehicle. Do not think the police department have any help here, but proof of ownership is something I can get from local authorities.

Maybe, with ownership proof, whatever car dealer, locksmith, or law enforcement can work their network for a solution.

Personally, I'd be more pessimistic about finding someone who's willing than someone who's able.

Maybe this'll help...

General Motors’ main U.S. customer service phone number is 1-800-462-8782, available Monday–Saturday, 8 a.m.–9 p.m. Eastern Time (Sunday closed).gmc+2

How GM handles support in Europe

  • GM’s global site directs consumers to individual brand sites (Chevrolet, Cadillac, GMC, Buick) rather than a central European call center.
  • In Europe, GM passenger-car operations have largely wound down, and remaining support tends to run via country-specific importers, PR contacts, or online request forms.gm+1

Chevrolet Europe contact (often used for GM-related queries)

  • Chevrolet Europe offers a general support/advisory web form; they promise a reply within 24 hours on business days.chevroleteurope
  • This form is the most “official” direct consumer-facing GM channel for Europe that is currently visible online.chevroleteurope

Historical Norway contact (Chevrolet / GM)

  • A Chevrolet Europe PR contact list shows a Norway contact: Kai Abrahamsen, Autonor Import AS, phone +47 69 28 04 20, mobile +47 90 58 74 32, email [email protected].gm
  • This list is a PR/media contact document and may be outdated, but it suggests that Autonor Import AS was the official GM/Chevrolet representative in Norway.gm

Practical next steps for a customer in Norway

  • Use the Chevrolet Europe support form for GM vehicle questions if your issue relates to Chevrolet or legacy GM cars in Europe.chevroleteurope
  • Alternatively, contact your local dealer/importer (listed in your vehicle documentation or on Norwegian automotive sites) and ask them to escalate to GM or the current rights holder for your brand.gm
