Fan only works on high

My hvac fan only works on high. Do I just need to replace the control panel or is there a fan resistor or some other part that has failed? Thanks

On most models, there's two seperate fuses for the blower motor. One fuse protects the high-only speed and the other fuse protects the lower speed circuits.

Check the resistors too. I had a GMC Canyon that did the same thing, and it turned out to be the resistors.

+1 I have just bought a Tahoe -01 LT and there is no air speed on 1-3 only on 4 and 5. Where are these fuses located and where are the alternators?

Im a total noob when it comes to these cars, have had mine for 1day.

Should be under pass side footwell next to fan has maybe like six wires to it and 2 screws holding it in.

Yes, mine did this too. Its got to be the blower motor resistor.. In the footwell area under glovebox on pass side. 2 screws 1 plug... Fixed.

I would first check to make sure you didn't get a bad "new" resistor. Did you buy new, or pulled from a salvage yard?

After that, I would suspect the head control unit.


As JK mentioned, there are 2 fuses:

High Speed - 40A blower fuse under the hood
All other speeds - 30A Heater/AC fuse in the driver side fuse panel

The only problem is that even though the high speed has it's own fuse, the 30A Heater/AC fuse is still a part of the equation, so if either (or both) fuses are blown, the high speed will not work.

Since your high speed is working correctly, I would verify your new resistor (can you exchange it for another?) and then change out the head control unit. Ebay.

I bought the new resistor from ebay from an ex-gm dealership inventory. I'll recheck the fuses also.

It was a faulty new resistor. I bought a new control panel from ebay anyway since the left side lights of mine were burnt out. Thanks for the help.

Get yourself the blower motor resistor. They are about $40 on ebay, $50 parts store.

I believe there is a separate resistor for the rear.
