I might be over thinking this but in my search to buy a straight exhaust pipe for my muffler delete, I came across differing gauges of steel piping.

What is the gauge/mm thickness of the stock pipe wall?

Awesome . Thanks for the reply.

How much does it really matter would be my follow up question and what gauge do you recommend for our trucks?

Hmm, never gave it much thought. Thicker would be quieter, less prone to corrosion and weigh more, but what's thicker?

Bump this thread in a few hours after everyone has woke up and had some coffee.

14-16 gauge is most common. As @swathdiver mentioned, the thicker metal will do a better job at transferring the noise to the back and out rather than radiate and resonate under the cabin. My advice is "thicker is better". The weight is pretty much irrelavant since, unless you use some early 1900s iron sewer pipe, a straight pipe will still be lighter than the muffler.
