Pretty basic questions. Who has electronic cut-outs, How long have you had them? Do they leak? What brand?

I'm heavily looking at qtp cut-outs I've seen alot of good reviews on them.

I can barely hear my cam with my exhaust but I dont want to have to screaming all the time as its a family vehicle, So exhaust cutout is my only option.

a different exhaust setup could help too. what exhaust setup are you running now? flowmaster 50s are nice on the highway real mellow. at idle it has a nice deep grumble and when your getting on it it also has a nice growl. when your just cruising around being easy on it tends to be barely audible inside a vehicle.

almost forgot about the xforce varex muffler too. it has an electronic baffle built into it like a cut out. with the baffles wide open its basically a straight through style aggressive muffler. with the baffle closed its supposed to push the exhaust flow through more of a turbo style muffler or something. video is for an f150 but it will give you an idea of what it sounds like.
that way you can get the sound you want but keep it quiet with the family and be 100% legal all the time.

I've had a 3" QTP on my Silverado for 4 years now. It is the best thing ever! The only problem I've ever had was during one rainy season about 2 years into its ownership I hadn't opened it for months and one day it was locked shut but I could hear the motor groaning. I tapped the blade with a screwdriver and it broke a small rust ring free and has worked fine since. When closed my exhaust goes through a ridiculously quiet muffler which sounds like stock and I never noticed an exhaust leak or anything else people complain about with other brand cutouts. They are expensive but worth it.

Magnaflow muffler alot of people use 12589 or something like that, Gutted 3rd cat and slp resonator delete. I think it's perfect for daily and running with family. But I do those times when I'm alone headed to work or store and I wish it sounded like my old straight pipe camaros and mustang's. Just not all the time.

I do.

How long have you had them?

Installed and operating? About a month.

Do they leak?

The cheaper, lower-quality ones such as mine do. The more expensive, higher-quality ones usually don't but are still somewhat susceptible to leaks. This is usually just from a small crud buildup that ends up wedging the valve from fully closed and is easily cleaned. The gated design from Doug's are supposed to be a leak-free design:

What brand?

According to the ebay listing, the brand I have is "CNSPEED"

You get what you pay for! I bought mine more as a purposeful toy and not really concerned if it craps out. It's a dual valve design that closes one side off when the other side is opened. The cutout side will be routed back into the muffled side after the mufflers, so I'm not concerned about it leaking. Actually, since my mufflers are so quiet, the small amount of leaked sound adds a little aggressiveness when running it through the mufflers.

Word. Same here. Do it! For the quality pieces, I'd look at the ones from Doug's, DMH or QTP

I don't understand why you gotta hear a cam?

But then again, I like sleepers.... Lol

Wouldn't a leaky valve cause turbulance in the exhaust flow, and in a way affect power output?

Well, ma'am, it's the same reason why some people like to hear their engines so they install louder mufflers and/or unmuffled air intakes.

I like sleepers as well. This is one point of a cutout- to have a sleeper but also to let freedom ring!

The leakage isn't enough to cause any turbulence. If anything, the extra pipe extending off to the side could interrupt the flow a very small, virtually undetectable amount. But, that would only happen with the cutout closed, which means you're choosing quietness over all-out flow and power so it wouldn't be a concern.

Although it required directional changes in the exhaust, presenting installation difficulties, I oriented my cutout to favor the straight-through flow for the unmuffled/cutout side. I'm sure the flow through the muffled side is affected since it has to make a couple of small turns. But, that side is for quiet sound, not flow. It being 3" versus the factory 2.75" helps this to not be a restriction. The cutout/straight pipe side is all for flow, so uninhibited flow it got.

Why I gotta hear the cam? Because I'm still a car guy and like to hear the thump thump of the cam, What did you think I installed a cam just for power gains!!??

And as stated before I like it to be mostly quiet most of the time aka sleeper.

On my 07 Escalade I went with a vacuum actuated exhaust cutout with wireless remote/app control. You can't adjust the opening, it's either open or closed. The pump has an app that works with an OBD2 Bluetooth plug that you can program to open and close at certain RPMs. I don't use it because I programmed the remote to work with the first 2 Homelink buttons.

Since no one really made a vacuum cutout for 3.5" exhaust, I had to kind of Frankenstein parts together. I had to weld the cutout to the flange after I cut the flange down a bit and used butt joints to tie it altogether. I mounted the vacuum pump/remote relay under the cupholders in the center console. When the cutout isn't open, the exhaust goes through a Magnaflow 12909.

Eventually I'll install a turndown and maybe a small resonator to clean up the sound a little. I have a similar setup on my 2000 Tahoe. I've used an electronic cutout in the past and IMO, they can't stand up to the heat. I had two of them go out in less than a month.

Here's a list of the parts I used:

3" Vacuum Cutout
Cutout Valve Pump Control
3.5" to 2.5" flange
3.5" Stainless Cutout
3.5" Butt Joint Exhaust Clamps (2)
