Ecoder motor splines

Ok I'm replacing my encoder motor. The splines coming out of the transfer case are supposed to turn fairly easily, however, my will not. I was too afraid to try and turn it with pliers as I don't want to mess anything up. What should I do based on other member's experiences?

Figured it out. you can delete this thread. I just put the truck in Neutral and wiggled the drive shaft and it came loose.

I was going to say, turn the driveshaft a bit. You got it.
