Im thinking of replacing the stock head unit for a new double din in the winter, and wondering what brands or setups you guys have?

I don't want to buy an amp, I want to run the stock bose with a head unit that has an amp built in..

Like in my matrix, I have a pioneer w 505 double din that has no amp built in, it's all components and a external amp is necessary...

Wondering what the sweet head unit is these days!! Let's see em!!

Also any that have 'in drive 'bypass capabilities like the pioneer...

Nice setup, all the bells, let me know if it plays dvd when you put it in drive...

I like pioneer head units, lots of tech.

I have used Kenwood DNX units in my trucks. My wife likes the built in Garmin nav. She refuses to use her phone for Nav and likes her Garmin portable GPS, but I hate having stuff suction cupped to the windshield, so it was a good compromise. She also wanted/needed a backup camera. I have liked them all, and actually will be selling one soon. Just upgraded to a new unit to get CarPlay.

I have had DNX9980HD, DNX691HD (soon for sale), and now DNX693S. I like the ones with the smaller screen (6.2" I think) because you still have physical buttons for volume, and menu, etc. The larger screen units have capacitive buttons and can be a pain to use if you don't have steering wheel controls. With steering wheel controls I don't think they would be as much of an issue.

Pioneer has a light green with white stripe wire that is "supposed" to go to the emergency brake. It's looking for a ground and gets it when you engage the emergency brake. I figured I would be a rebel and just wire it straight to ground. Simple right? Except that when you pop a dvd in, the stereo want you to take off the "brake" and put it back on. Well damn. I got around this by wiring a toggle switch in between the green and where it's grounded. Now when it asks to disengage the emergency brake and reengage it, just flip the toggle switch.

It will play DVDs whenever you want. Of course, I would never be silly enough to have a DVD going while driving down the road! :)

I went the toggle switch route since it was about $4.
