Take them off and have them painted. Chrome handles do this too and are easier to deal with, just put a new set on and drive on. Going to replace my door speakers at the same time so the panels only come off once more in the next decade or so! Already replaced the inner door handles a couple of years ago. Those we just replaced with new chrome ones also.
