I bought my tahoe two years ago with 137k on the odometer. My tahoe now has 176k and i am planning to do a transmission fluid & filter change after i change my oil and filter on the engine. I will also be doing a complete brake job adding new calipers/rotors and pads.

I have already purchased all the material needed for the task but i have one question regarding the transmission fluid job.

I purchased a new transmission filter, gasket and seal as well as 1 gallon of ac delco dexron vi but after watching a few videos i found out i may need to replace 5-6 quarts of transmission fluid.

Being that it is difficult for me to locate two individual quarts of ac delco brand dexron vi, would i be able to add 1 to 2 quarts of valvoline dexron vi to compensate for the 1 gallon of ac delco brand that i already have?

Or will mixing the two brands result in disaster ie: cause issues with my transmission.

You shouldn't have a problem as long as both are rated/certified for Dex/Merc or Dex6...You can mix conventional and synthetic as well though most won't.

You are also mixing it with the fluid that won’t drain in the torque converter
True! I also considered that as well but wanted a second opinion due to mix recommendations online. With that being said im glad i came to the forums.

Job was completed an hour in a half ago starting at 10am this morning. Went very smoothly with the help of My Father in law; shifts better than ever in the time i’ve owned the vehicle. The previous gasket was still in great condition as well as the filter, I can tell the previous owner did maintenance on it before it was mine. We also added a 40k Tru Cooler and it is keeping the trans temp well between 130-140 so far, which is awesome!
All things considered this truck still has alot of life left in it. The new brake kit from Power-stop is impressive so far and looks great. Going to be driving from LA county to Sacramento tomorrow so i will definitely get a legitimate feel of the results while on the trip.
