I'm in the process of getting a custom box built in my back wheel well. The box will be fiber glass and have a custom cover.

I have a 10" Kicker Solo Classic that I had in a small box behind the 3rd row but I wanted a more factory look. Below is a pic in the early stages but it should be done tomorrow. I will post completed pic tomorrow.

Interesting...

I think it has potential to look good!. What year is your truck and do you have the automatic lift gate?

more pics of behind the plastic and the entire box please....

I'm having it done because I don't know enough to do it corectly. The box will be permenent. He cut out the big plastic piece and attached the front piece you see. He then built a side piece that fits inside the well and the rest will be fiber glass. The blue you see in the well is tape and he will fiber glass over that. The box will basicly be built inside the well. He will use some type of fiber carpet to construct the other side and top and then fiber glass it all while its in the wheel well.

The front will be covered in matching grey vinyl and have a bowtie logo in it.

I have an 07 LT and it does not have a auto liftgate. The only thing that needs to be removed is the jack. I was also able to keep the storage area which I like.

Yes, the jack needs to be removed but the bolts can stay.

It should look like that but not quite as fancy. As I said, the front cover will be wraped in grey vinyl and will have a faint bowtie logo in it. The part that covers the front of the speaker will be a black speaker grill cloth.

I think it wil look good but I hope it sounds good as well. Might have to add some dynomat in and around the box.

It sounds good, not as good as a standard box but its really close. They had to try it twice because the first time they did not use enough fiber glass and there were leaks in the box, so it sounded bad.

They fixed it and added more fiber glass and enclosed the box much better and it sounds almost like my old box. This is much better beacuse of the factory look and I have full trunk space in the back. I also don't look like I'm in highschool with a big sub box in the back of my truck.

I like that a lot, it's exactly what I've been thinking about doing. If you don't mind my asking, about how much did this run you?

I know the guy and have bought many things from them before, so he gave me a bit of a deal. I won't say what i paid but regular cost would be around $450 to $500 for a custom box like this.

If you know someone at your local shop you might be able to get them down to $350 or $400 but that's about as cheap as you will be able to get a good job done for the box.

How big is the box? I'm assuming it's sealed, correct? Just wondering b/c it seems like a limited amount of air space and only certain subs will likely work correctly in a box of that size.

That's still not a bad price, even at full price. I am curious to see what it would sound like. The last box I had was enormous, but it beat super hard. I just don't want to lose my cargo space anymore, otherwise, I'd pull it out of the garage and hook it back up.

I haven't worked with the audio shop I previously did in years, so I doubt anyone I knew back then is there now. However, I may have a lead on someone who could do that for me. I'll be talking to him about options next time I see him.

I'm not sure on the exact cubic feet but it works well with the 10" solo classic I have. It's sealed and is fixed to the wheel well. Its all fiber glass inside the wood box and the wood is sealed to the metal with fiber glass as well. The box is very solid. I also stuck some poly fiber material in the box.

You are correct, a box like this will only sound good with certain subs. I tried a couble differnt ones at his shop and some do sound better than others. The box is big enough not to have to use a shallow mount sub. I'm more of a SQ guy and dont really need monster bass. I have some boston acoustics componets in my doors and just wanted a fuller complete sound.

Im going to get a JL Audio 10w3v3-2 to replace the Solo Classic in a day or so and I think it will sound even better. I need a 2 ohm sub because I only have a rockford fosgate 2 ohm amp running my sub.
