I have a 2007 Tahoe that the cruise doesn’t work on. I’ve checked fuses and changed the brake switch. The new switch didn’t make the cruise work but made the brake lights stay on. I switched back to the old switch, the cruise worked a few times the next couple of days, then quit again. Anyone else have this problem, or know of any other things to check? Thanks.

have you scanned the obd port to see if there is any codes?
cruise will not work if there is a cel light or brakes not working, the brake switch has two readings one is a resting point reading.
cruise may also not work if you have certain led brake light bulbs installed

Have not tried to scan it yet, that may be my next step.

Do not have any type of LED lights installed.

What is a cel light?

Clearly the "new" switch was defective. Try another brand or get an OE part if available -- buy once, cry once.

A scanner showing the various position states of the switches inside the brake switch might help sort it out.
I tried the new switch a second time months later, unhooked the battery for like 45 minutes thinking it might reset something. Nope. I’m going to try the scanner next.
Check Engine Light
that didn’t even dawn on me that that stood for check engine light. Lol.

The only codes I have are for an air bag, service suspension, and park sensor. The rear camera also finally stopped working. Not sure if any of that has anything to do with it.

Does the light turn on, on the steering wheel when you press the button on?
if not then check all your fuses.
doesn't mean it will work if the light is on, it's just one thing to verify

the service suspension could be why, depending i suppose. part of how stabiltrac and everything works uses data from all 4 wheels, yaw, steering, etc
there is a laundry list of reasons why cruise "might" not work

the service suspension might be a clue, it could be causing erratic voltage or other interference, if stabiltrac is off that would be why no cruise
  • If you see codes like C0575 (Left Front Shock Actuator Circuit) or C0660 (Leveling Compressor Relay), the issue is isolated to the suspension hardware.
  • If you see "U" codes (e.g., U0100, U0121), you have a communication/network fault that is likely causing both the suspension and cruise control systems to drop out.

i'm guessing it may take a little more troubleshooting, the backup sensor and camera may also be a clue if there is corrosion or a short, etc the cruise may not engage

Yes the light comes on. I’ve checked all the fuses that I think have anything to do with the cruise.

This is from out in left field, but you never know. I was reading about a similar issue (intermittent failure of cruise control actuation and of the illumination in the steering wheel).

There's a contact 'donut' in the steering column that affects these things.
