Hey was able to get my hands on an order that someone else has passed on. Eta delivery is July 29.

2022 yukon xl denali
6.2L 4x4
Is it okay to tow with it right away? I've been waiting awhile for one.
I will be towing my travel trailer near the max tow limit of the yukon.
Will be traveling anywhere from 100km to 300km distance
Thanks

I don’t know for sure, but I think generally your suppose to break in with about 1,000 miles first. My bro’s f-250 was that way

As a rule you should give it at least 500 miles to bed the brakes and let the drivetrain run in a bit….
But, I drove my 2004 ram 750 miles with a 5k loaded cargo trailer the very next morning after picking it up…. And well, 18 years later, it’s still here and runs like new….

The owners manual is pretty clear not to tow till its broken in. You are not just breaking in the motor. The trans, the differential, and the brakes are all breaking in. A light tow I guess would be ok, but to have no miles and just come right out and tow to the max weight not the best idea.

Yeah that's what I figured. But obviously its recommended but with your example it didn't seem to hurt it

Yeah owners manual is the best place to check. Unfortunately I don't have one to look at yet. All makes sense it is breaking in all the power train, brakes etc. Ideally I would like to have at least one oil change done before towing but with it being mid summer and camping season my options seem to be limited. Will get as many miles in before towing

Are mountains involved? If you take it extra-easy on everything (light accelerations, manually shift early to keep the engine revs low, cruise at different speeds on the highway, brake lightly and early, etc.) you'll be fine.

just go to GMC web page, Support, Manuals, and download it. Great reading. I did that for my Tahoe while I was waiting for it to arrive.
I read thru it about 2 months ago shortly after ordering my tahoe the 1st time. I will do it again, after i get home from vacation

Off topic alert! Item two about hard braking. At less than 100 miles I had an idiot turn left in front of me. I was going 60mph. Had i not braked hard, I would have hit him. He barely made it by me
Sometimes you have to do what you have to do to stay safe.

In theory, assuming one broke it in with added weight responsibly, then once that weight were removed the vehicle would be faster/stronger than a regular breakin?

I don't think so, the break in period is so everything gets settled into how you drive the vehicle as well as seating break pads to the rotors. The break in period doesnt make the motor or suspension or transmission be better if you have added weight to the vehicle vs not having the weight in during break in period. Just my thoughts on it though.

I was in your same position when I bought my truck. It was the season, and my delivery came in right before my interstate trip towing my 5500 lb race car. The market was crazy, and i was lucky to get a 3.0 diesel. I considered going on the trip with my suburban and just trading when I got back, which was within the week. The market was nuts and salesman told me they could have sold the truck 5 times the day it landed. I drove across the state and did the deal that day. Was nervous someone would offer over sticker and I would be screwed. Problem was I was leaving in 3 days and now had no suburban and a new truck with 150 miles on it. I figured I may be keeping this truck longer than expected and just wasnt going to screw it up. I rented a truck to tow up to Virginia.! Only person going to deal with a mistake was me, and it wasnt worth it on such an expensive truck. No regrets. Broke it in correctly did diff fluid, oil change and now have 12K on her with not one issue.

These rigs seem to be fully broken in after 5k miles. Engine fully wakes up. Personally i wouldn’t tow with less than 5k. Rent something else as your tow ride.
