My neighbor has a Tahoe, maybe 5 - 7 years old (bought it used). About 3 or 4 nights a week (between midnight and 6 am, sometimes twice a night), the alarm triggers, the horn blasts about a dozen times then stops. We are in a 50-year-old, quiet (except for that horn) suburban neighborhood. We do have night critters roaming around, but have very little wind. Don't know if the alarm was factory installed.

Asked the wife half of the neighbor about it a year ago. She said they couldn't figure out how to adjust the alarm. The husband half knows cars - he has a 1960s T-bird that he works on and a Model A.

The Tahoe is parked in the driveway. The back of it is maybe 12 feet from the street. They have a garage, but the husband half parks his lifelong dream - a late-model Caddy he bought used - in the garage along with the T-Bird.

I need to approach the neighbor about it again. I know this is unfair to ask, since I gave you so little information. But would appreciate any suggestions I could give them about either disabling the alarm or changing the sensitivity.

I gotta get a full night's sleep!

Thanks.

well, it isn't factory. Factory wouldn't go off unless someone opened the door.

it's (cheap) aftermarket, with an overly sensitive shock sensor, a failing battery (low voltage will set off alarms) or a microwave perimeter sensor.

Look under the dash, right above the pedals. More than likely all you need to do is unplug the brain you will find there, no more alarm.

Alternately, put the alarm in valet. Probably has a pushbutton, or flip switch in the kickpanel. Flip switch or press for a few seconds while the key is on, and door open for about 90% of them. 'blinky light' goes solid, it is in valet and should not go off anymore.

If that doesn;t work, look under the dash, find the brain manufacturer and model number and then look up the user manual online.

Thanks, Eagle, for the quick reply. Just what I was looking for. Obviously, I didn't have a clue. I'll have the reply in hand when I talk with my neighbor tomorrow.

no problem... I've disabled a few for my neighbors for the same reason.
