I buily my own CAI today out of some 3'' pvc, some rubber boots and a conical washable filter from AUTOZONE.
I capped off the old box behind the intake, with a pvc rubber cap. took out all the plastic air filter housing and made my stuff..
My issue now is that i dont feel like i have the same amount of torque as i did before.. Is there something that i dont get here or is it just me?

is the filter in an enclosed or sectioned area? if its installed unprotected and closer to the engine than it was before, you run the risk of taking in hot air pretty much defeating the purpose. also make sure everything is fitted correctly and you are using automotive grade parts that wont melt or quickly decay.

You've got to remember, you've created essentially a junk yard air filter system. K&N/Volant/AEM do this shit with high quality parts in a lab.
