So this is a bit crazy I think I need to share. Havent seen anything like this on my short experience with these cars and the research Ive done.....

Last month I bought a 2019 RST 6.2 53k miles..... literally zero expected or existing powertrain issues and over the last 30 days started throwing parts at it....suspension, brakes, sways.... only power upgrades were Corsa CAI and Borla chevy exhaust...minor baby power stuff.

Well... CAI went in and p0101 started showing randomly. really annoying.... went back over and over the install and even smoke tested....nothing. code would show up randomly and i even saw once a po15b. id test every 50 miles and several key turns and literally half the time id see a pending dtc or it would throw.

I had ordered a range AFM delete randomly to put in anyway and the day i installed it i......

put a tank of 93 in at a sheetz
reinstalled the intake the 3rd time using sockets on the standard crud corsa clamps
AND..... i inserted the range AFM delete

then drove 50 miles....hard driving checking for codes about every 10 miles....nothing. no dtcs. no nothing

felt like a kingpin and bragged to my girl about how i may have finally installed the mfer properly. she had complimented me for being OG seeing my toolchest in the driveway and i didnt discourage the compliments on my manlihood

heres where it gets weird....

took her to dinner 3 miles away but forgot to insert the range....boom... pending p0101 code. i was heartbroken.

to make a long story short...i put it in after that and have since put on 200 miles with no less than 20 key cycles thru heavy full throttle 2 lane......hwy cruising.... stop and go city driving.... and guess what....no codes...no pending dtcs.....no freaking nothing.

its the v4 that kills these engines folks. had the car 30 days and im making a bigass build with mine. im gonna tune this out asap. but i dont care if you are bone stock or have a basic intake get that v4 crap off your vehicle. its a suicide module if a freaking basic well designed intake with a bit extra air makes the V4 transitions throw a fit

Absolutely crazy that the V4 is what’s throwing the code!

Wonder if anyone else on here has had similar issues?? You can’t be the only one who has a CAI on these trucks.

Don't know, you're posting in the 2021 and up section and we don't have AFM. I have a K&N intake kit and it does not throw any codes. It has been on for over a year.

'21 LT 4WD 111K. Experiencing random surging with medium to hard acceleration. (We need to pass slowpokes now and again). Doesn't feel like a misfire, it feels like driveline. ??? The tach doesn't waver at all. It will accelerate but it's a little concerning when in the left lane. It has yet to throw a code.
Any thoughts?
Probably not a perfect fit for this thread and would recommend creating your own thread.

Sounds like a throttle body issue or possible transmission issue based on the high level detail provided.

For what its worth....

I asked a GM Engineer if I could add the OEM CAI and the Performance Exhaust to my 25 Tahoe High Country 6.2L.

He said you can but its not recommended because when its installed by GM the truck goes to GM's aftermarket upfitter Kerr Industries. The VIN serialized parts are installed and the engine gets a new performance calibration. This is done to avoid the DTCs that will occur if the calibration is left original and not updated. Then any subsequent calibration updates are pushed out but only specific to the 6.2L with Performance Package.

You might want to look into a dealership doing the updated engine calibration or buying the GM programming tool.

The CAI is taking more air than stock air box.
the MAF table needs to revised / tweaked for your set up.

the exhaust..cat back?..not so much impact to way the engine breathes compared to the CAI.

Thanks!

I think my experience explains what the update might be for tho. Thats why I shared my experience. If the truck needs a tune after my install its not for power or safety in V8 its in the V4 and/or transitions in and out of V4.

IMO all of these trucks need the V4 tuned out. All these trucks would be better without that suicide module programmed into these motors. My theory after experiencing this is that if a simple CAI install turns the V4 into a problem that throws codes and the V8 is fine and dandy....then it goes along with the whole premise of how angry our motors are because of that AFM feature period.

As a further update since I posted this Ive put 1000 additional miles on the truck with the range afm delete in. Not a code or DTC to be found. All is operating well within stock parameters including dozens of hard pulls in below freezing temps. IMO no tune whatsoever is needed except to pull the V4 out permanently.

I do also understand a specific tune for my car could dial it in better. But that could be stated for an entirely stock vehicle regardless of what hand may have been lifted or not. If no DTCs or codes are being thrown and the truck wants to RUN..... then all is well and operational within the parameters of the stock tune for the V8 portion

Only for the V4 tables perhaps. I think the intake functions well within the limits of the MAF table for when the motor is running on all cylinders.

Or at least thats what my experience leads me to believe.
