Busted hose P1258 P0117

Driving today and couldn't accelerate past 20mph, very headstand in accelerating as well. Got home and smelled antifreeze. Turns out it's a busted hose.

The bigger question is why does my oil read 0% when I just got an oil change last Thursday???

Maybe 'cause the oil life monitor didn't get reset? What was it when you pulled out of the oil change place?

It was definitely 100% after I left for the oil change. I'll have to check the dip stick but doesn't seem right. 0% would almost be impossible.

That’s the oil life monitor, not the oil level…it tells you when to change the oil based on miles driven and several other factors. It should have been reset when the oil was changed which would set it to 100%. It certainly wasn’t at 100% BEFORE the oil was changed, it should have bern closer to 0%.

Either way. Hoses replaced yesterday. Bought both hoses for just under $200. Antifreeze filled up again. She seems to be driving good now. I think I'm going to replace the belts now just as a precaution since I don't know when they were changed last.

I had the exact same heater hose blowout last year. Make sure that you change the radiator hoses and the hose that goes to the coolant reservoir, as well, as they are probably all the same age and potentially in a pre-failure condition.

I'm going to order those. I only went to the dealer yesterday because I needed it asap.

My question is why wouldn’t it accelerate past 20 mph? Was it extremely overheated since there was obviously no or very little coolant in it? Did you have any warnings on the DIC? What was the engine temperature? Also, that appears to be a broken plastic connector at the firewall. Those 2 plastic T’s right there are probably next to fail. They should be replaced with OEM- don’t use the Dorman ones since they fail quickly. There are several threads on those here. If you do replace them, just break the old ones off with needle nose pliers or tin snips because trying to release the quick connects is really hard. Installing them after removing the old ones is easy- just push them on until they click.

I suspect that his engine overheated, and the control system automatically put it in reduced operation mode and the speed limiter kicked in. I know that when my heating hose shredded and blew off, the motor's coolant temperature reached the red zone in less than 30 seconds, due to the speed that the coolant was expelled out of that broken hose.

That’s what I figured must have happdned but there was no mention of it. He stated he drove it home, then smelled antifreeze. When my T blew, same thing as you- the engine overheated immediately and I pulled over before it went into reduced power mode. It’s not good to keep driving once that happens.

When my plastic T broke, it got hot quik, after about 1 mile and 2 mins. Did a temporary fix after it cooled down in a HD parking lot, then drove the remaining 8 miles home. Never went into a limp mode, during or after.
