I never said they were the same engine. I said the rotating assembly was virtually identical.

And specifically the journals which is where the viscosity discussion becomes pertinent.

These engines may have changed valve covers, pcv valves, throttle bodies, etc...whatever irrelevant component you want to bring up...it doesn't change the fact that 1) the original LS engine has the same crank journal dimensions as current engines and 2) first 6.2 and current 6.2 had same crank journals and was even a forged crank 3) these engines were orginally spec'd with 5w30.

In terms of your house analogy: house A made in 1999 has the same wood, same number of beams, same cross section of beams as house B made in 2014. Yet the 2014 house has much smaller nails. 2021-2024 houses are based on 2014 design with small nails. 2021-2024 houses have added weight on the roof (more load). Now the load bearing joints are failing. The remedy is to use the larger nails.

You might have noticed that GM put more power through these engines--on the same bearing design. They also changed transmissions and the resultant transmission mapping.

So the "external forces" have increased when dimensions haven't changed.
In other words it was designed for 0w-20.

Thank you.

it isn't. But it is equally hard to see how people are ignoring the big glaring 0w40 aspect of this recall.
This would be valid if they used 0w40 on every 6.2 new and old. But they dont and wont. Bravo tho. Haven't done this many circles in a long long time.

Im gonna give you some credit here and say your just trolling for entertainment now and not substance.
No not “ in other words”.

There is literally no way to conclude that.

You are forcing a conclusion into existence that is literally not there.

You are weaseling out of this discussion by making a false summary of what I’ve written.

I mean I've never met someone so confidently incorrect before. I feel like you gotta be trolling. But this isnt X or reddit lmao.
I never seen such a brazen refusal to admit an error then follow up with a lie about it.

This is what two threads this month you got handled like doorknob?

Take the L and move on.

Don’t bother replying or quoting.

Your are clearly and obviously a sociopathic liar.

You are not worth anyone’s time.

Your saying because the bearing is similar to an engine made almost 20 years ago that the design is the same ?

It makes no sense lol. And Im glad you remember me. Rent free.

Hopefully people can read between the lines. I guess this is why people dont use forums as much anymore. Its opinions instead of fact.

I will also say I dont need to resort to name calling when all im doing is providing objective data that can be looked up by anyone and not using my own cooked up data from my garage.

Im not sure what your angle is. But usually its to sell something when data isnt used. The last time we had this merry go round thats exactly what it was.

I've clearly hurt your feelings. That's not my intent. I just hate misinformation that you are pushing my Rockstar.

Im just here to fact check and be objective and make the discussion go along positively.

If you are offended thats not my intent. But I guess these days fact checking is a slurr lol

More sociopathic nonsense.

Keep talking to yourself. It is a good look.

Guys this is an argument of different schools of thought.

In my observation folks like @DuraYuk @vcode , maybe a couple others are Tech Enthusiasts, and a bit more bold in risk taking, a lot of the others here including myself are highly risk averse (again in my observation.)

In the Automotive industry each phase below is ~3-5 years (warranty period is usually the graduation mark). In personal electronics each phase is ~1 year.

I am on the extreme opposite end of the spectrum as some of the enthusiats here. I am beyond skeptic. I don't touch anything unless it's been through 4-5 phases, well past warranty and with significant crowd knowledge, know-how... That is why I still drive my 80s trucks with proven / simple technology. I don't see a need for more.

Just to move on..... I saw a GM dealer ad for a used Silverado with the 6.2L that claimed the recall had been performed. Did they just change the oil and say all done? Or has the recall campaign actually started?

Seems unlikely (to me) that the recall campaign has officially started. But maybe the dealer had the tool (pico scope or whatever it’s called) and followed the outlined testing procedure on that truck as kind of an unofficial experiment, and assuming it passed, went ahead and changed the oil? Or would it be a no-no for a dealer to do that if the recall campaign hasn’t officially started?

Or, maybe the dealer is just lying…

EDIT: I suppose it would make sense that the dealers may already be doing the test for vehicles in inventory, but I bet if a customer took their truck into that same dealer and asked for the recall work to be done, the service dept would say you can’t come in until you get the letter from GM.

How’s the pissing contest going today?

DFM: Good or Bad?

0-20 vs 0-40?

I think we should all just do what DuraYuk says, he is all knowing and is so smart he tells everybody else how to run there 6.2 from the seat of his Duramax. He can obviously pee further than anyone here and should be the final authority of all things.

I don’t think less of anyone for using 0w20.

I can see how 0w20 looks like it’s a successful oil for minimizing friction, pumping losses while maintaining engine protection.

Victor shepherd took two toyota v8s to 1 million miles in 10,000 mile oci. This stuff can actually work.

0w20 can work well in many applications if it the design clearly incorporates it.

However if there is counterfactual information available I think it is worth a second or third thought.

… and I think there is enough counterfactual information regarding specific use of 0w20 in 6.2.

I wanted to post this less people think I wake up in the morning and hit a punching bag with a picture of 0w20 on it.

Lmao. That's funny.

All I did was post objective data. But way to keep the discussion going.

I never measured how far I can piss? Is that something yall did in the 70s? Sorry man im not that old. I dont know the lingo.

Its not rocket science to A:) look and read the recall in its entirety. B:) to realize that just because the displacement is the same as an engine 20 years older that it isnt the same engine. C.) Realize the 0w-20 is still the manufacture recommended oil D.) That there are millions upon millions of 6.2 with 0w-20 and other engines that run it without issue E.) That it isnt a conspiracy to want efficiency and gas mileage.

But I hear ya. Fact checking ain't the cool thing to do these days. Hahaha

I hope you guys are having a good day. :)

Better yet why not put some gear oil in? I mean let's get max protection. Maybe some Lucas oil stabilizer. Yall remember the little displays by the parts counter? Its gotta work right ? Right? Hahahaha

You know good and damn well I never claimed they were the same engine.

Is this the objective data you are advertising? Please…

There are numerous instances of bold and underlined references to the journal sizes being the same.

For the 900th time this is the salient point because this is where bearing design has to incorporate oil viscosity.

You never attempted a real response to this.

Instead you made up a claim I never made ( same engine) and then doubled down claiming what I posted proved your point about 0w20 when it did the exact opposite.

You can’t offer any technical response because you are out of your lane on this and are resorting to distraction and fabrication.

And yeah it isn’t rocket science to see that 0w40 can not only just work on a perfect manufactured crank but also ones with imperfect surface finish and dimensions.

This too is part of the recall no matter how much you ignore it and keep typing “ it isn’t the oil because
Millions of engines use it”

It is part of the recall because it is a countermeasure.

Gm isn’t going to put out a countermeasure in front of nhtsa that’s a troll job.

We gonna discuss houses some more?

Or what other lame distraction do you have?

My mom said not to engage with you anymore. So I wont. Im tired of it keep posting your stuff. Let the audience decide for themselves.

Tbh your posts are so convoluted I dont even know what you are saying anymore.

I hope you have a great day! :) I dont want to make you mad/angry. This is a forum for positive discussion.
