And not only clearances, but surface finishes are a big issue also if they are out of Specification or too rough, they will start to work at each other much more quickly than if they are at or under what's desired. As I posted many posts ago there are many many factors that can lead into this, and the top two or three have already been discovered. Others come in to a much less extent, but ALL factors ball up to expose failure. Out of spec. parts, poor qualification of parts, insufficient testing and quality control at the factory and vendors.
Oil "can" be a factor, but not nearly as huge as once thought. The fact that replacement engines ship with 0W-20 lets you know that 40W is a band aid......

This is true!

Maybe a new thread on common denominator for 6.2l failure.

So far, after reading a lot about this the only thing I have seen is most failures are at highway speeds over 50mph. Is this correct?

I would like to know if anyone with a DFM disabler like Range, Carbyte etc has had a failure.

If there is a thread on this please link it as I would like to see the actual history of the failures.
All this is, is a mis manufactured bearing inside the motor/potential debris. Thats it. The heavier oil is a band aid until the fix is implemented which means a new engine with the new part. Not all the Recalled vehicles will fail. But GM cannot pinpoint exactly which so they recalled the range of them.

The other 75 pages of this thread is nonsense being repeated over and over again.

That's it. End of story period.

I drive mine up on ramps. I don't trust my life on a valve that could fail or change its mind while I'm under it.....

Also I see this fuel dilution mentioned quite a bit, but every single oil analysis I've seen posted gas or diesel, refutes that. If that's such a big deal post up a few analyses that show excessive fuel dilution....
I should have mentioned that I still use jack stands after lifting with the air ride. I wouldn’t chance it either.

Well found out about this recall via our 22 with the 6.2 dying on the highway last night. Pretty scary having a 3 month old and 3 other young kids in the car on a busy 5 lane Chicago highway.

Very scary and the worst fear of all of us. Can you give more details? How many miles, last oil change, were you able to coast safely to the side of the road? Everybody OK?

This is exactly why we are talking about this issue!
The inconvenience and cost of our $70-$100k trucks breaking down is one thing but the safety factor is biggest problem!!!!

Most of us buy these vehicles to haul loved ones and precious cargo.

So far the stories of failure have had no injuries or fatalities but statistics are not in our favor!

Indeed what I said as well. GM screwed up some critical engine parts. End of story.

I have already written about this several times, there is no dilution of oil with fuel. Oil tests confirm this, moreover, we have a sensor for the presence of fuel in the oil on the engines, it would begin to swear if fuel standards are exceeded
Because the majority of people that are performing oil analysis usually overly maintain their vehicles themselves and likely drive them in a way they will not likely dilute the oil as much. Also not everyone lives in areas where the a Winter temps are generally at or below freezing for much if the season.

When did GM include a sensor to detect the presence of fuel in the oil? What is the name of the sensor and part number?

@Vladimir2306

Has your 6.2l ever been opened up? Bearing replaced or other internal engine work performed?

Question about your trailer, looks like a twin jet ski trailer. Did you have 2 jet skis on the trailer when the failure occurred? Trying to get an idea of weight you were hauling. I also see a car top carrier and I assume you had the cargo area fairly full? Probably about 4,000 with trailer with 2 jetskia a with cargo and family members?
