I picked up a 99 police ed. tahoe over the weekend and the brake lights, right turn signal, and hazards do not work. The left (drivers side) signal and top brake light work though. Alot of stuff was unpluged when I picked it up and it looks like a few fuses are missing. Can anyone think of a reason this would be happening, like a maybe a certain fuse or relay that controls those lights? I need to get these lights fixed so I drive this thing around.

Yeah, try the circuit board. Mine went due to some seriously hacked trailer wiring, and caused all sorts of weird light issues. They have them on the shelf at Schucks for ~$50/pair. You can test continuity first. Good score on the Hoe!!!!!

Forgot to mention I already replaced the tail light circuit boards because they were all corroded. It is wired for a trailer, I guess I should check those wires.

I'll post pics later today when I get home, I thought about the cutout switch but I couldnt find one anywhere. The top brake light is working anyway so I dont think it is that.

If you've already replaced both circuit boards, go for fuses next, and check the wiring at the brake light switch. Your brake light switch is probably fine since your top light is coming on, but it wouldn't hurt to run a light over the wiring, and make sure it all looks good. Also- I'm assuming all your other lights (headlights/corners/etc) work, is this the case? Have you tested continuity of the bulbs?

I know the head lights work but I dont know about the rest of the lights up front, I am getting a good list of stuff to check after work. I havent tested the bulbs, but I think im going to buy all new bulbs for the rear just so I dont have to worry about that.

I made some progress tonight, everything on the front and all the lights on the drivers side rear including the upper tail light work. The brake light and the turn signal on the passenger side tail light are still not working but the running lights are. I checked the fuses and they are all fine. I didnt like how the trailer light adapter looked so I took that out, but it didnt change anything. Tomorrow im going to borrow a multi meter from my friend and try to figure this thing out. Does anyone have a diagram of the wiring for the tail lights? Sorry no pics yet

I know they say "if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all" and usually I hold my tongue, but since I drive a police vehicle every day, I will say it only one time: what were you thinking buying a used police vehicle! Those things get the shit driven out of them, used all day and put up wet.

I've said my peace,....now continue on

The only saving grace for that thing is if it came from a good department, it will have had regular service done on it. Ours go in every 3 months regardless if they need it or not.

Im with the rest of em, lets see some pics of this beast.

I followed the tail light wires checking all the plugs if they had power to the passenger side tail light wire all the way up through the fire wall to that relay box but I dont know where to go from there??? Does anyone know how to take that box out or where to check for the passenger side tail light brake/signal in the interior with a multi meter?
