This weekend I am going to replace my blend door because the tab where the 2 springs connect to the other two flaps broke. Wondering do I really need to remove the dash? Can I just take off the bottom of the housing?

Yes, you HAVE to remove the dash. No there isn't any other way. Sorry.

Remember that the steering column must be removed in order to properly remove the dash without cracking it.

NOT TRUE. I had the same problem and was able to get a blend door replacement kit from Heatertreater and was also able to get a local garage to install it for me. It's an alternative method to replacing the blend door that does not require dash removal. After I got mine in the mail the garage was able to install it sameday! :party33:

I don't know how they make it so you dont have to take the dash off but after completing the job this weekend. I will say it wasn't that bad. Taking the dash off is pretty straight forward and nowhere near as bad as most vehicles. The airbox assy. removal is just as easy. I replaced the heater core and A/C evap (thanks amazon) just to be safe and the parts were cheap. Sucks now cause everything works except the torso vent ( correct name? )

The actuator or the door? I think its the actuator near the gas pedal.
How do u move it by hand??

That's the correct one. And I was referring to moving the door. You have to remove the actuator, then you can move the door.

I was only able to move the actuator once it was removed. I could just be a weakling though. :doh2:

yea you can remove the actuator and turn the spindle that moves the doors. only thing is you dont want to get it out of synchronization with what setting the hvac controls are on. otherwise when you put the actuator back on it might not work right. the only thing that can really go wrong in your situation is its either a bad actuator that needs replacing or theres an obstruction blocking one of the doors which isnt likely. id get a replacement actuator and check the voltage on the wires that plug into it and make sure its gettin what its supposed to

I'm looking to replace my leaking heater core in my 2007 Tahoe. Dash is mostly apart but I'm not sure how to continue to remove the heater box for access to the heater core. Does anyone out there have instructions, a link, or video?

Did you figure out how to change the door without removing the dash?

I have done a couple of these now because the seals on all of the doors dry rot and fall off, and then the conditioned air leaks out the wrong vents regardless of what position the knob is placed.

The dash needs to be pulled to get the HVAC case out of the truck, and then the HVAC case comes apart to replace the doors. Make sure you have purchased all 3 new doors, as there is a good chance they will all be dry rotted, but you will not know until you get it apart.
