Howdy all, just purchased my first 4wd suv, a 99 Yukon. The windshield has a crack and will need to be replaced at some point, the box in question isn't really stuck on that well, can it be removed? I have suspicions it's related to the onstar or rear view mirror. I'm sure this has been covered ad nauseum, but I couldn't find it in a search. Thanks

Is there any marking on it? My '99 doesn't have anything like that, but mine doesn't have OnStar, either. Mine does have a plastic cover that extends from the rear view mirror mount up to the headliner.

Make sure the tech doing your glass work takes the time to fix any rust under the edge of the windshield. Mine was done a couple months ago, and the tech explained the process they use (Safelite) and he took the time and did a great job.

your glass guy should be able to remove that with no problem. ( I worked for safelite for 7 years) if I had to guess I would say it is a remote start or alarm receiver. the glass guy can remove it and maybe even tell u what it is. if u need to keep it just clean It up and stick it back on with double sided tape ( you may even get lucky and he has some left over from replacing a mirror :) )

The glass guy called one of his buddies who's a service manager at a dealership, he said it was for the homelink garage door opener, mystery solved.
