Best CB Radio Install?

Help me spend my money haha... I want to install a CB radio in my truck. There's a few things I'm trying to figure out yet though. First I'd love to see your setup if you beautifully integrated a radio into your truck.

Antenna Location: I want to mount the antenna on driver side fender.

I see raightchannelradios.com sells a bracket to do that, but is only for 2002-2007. Mine is a 2001 so the bracket is for half way down the hood which I really don't like the look of. Anybody know of a bracket to mount closer to A pillar on fender for 2001 tahoe? (pictures below)

Module location: I'd LOVE to have a small unit I can possibly swap in, in place of my tape deck.

I'd also like for the handset to connect to the back of the unit (not the front). I'd bring the handset out to side of console and hang it there. If that doesn't work I'd possibly modify the cup holder and put where the square part of cup holder is. Any idea of a small CB radio that would fit in place of tape deck?

Unless you have a need to install a CB radio you might want to consider a GMRS radio or even a HAM radio.

I have not installed a radio in my Tahoe yet but it will be one of the 2 listed.

Your 01 is the same as an 02 up to 06 so....I think they messed up years on the website

I bought the bracket despite it said 02 and up, and it works fine. Then I bought the midland 75-822 radio. My antenna is still on its way. I got a 4' firestick

I chose CB because is what my friend runs that I plan to go offroad with

Better quality communications all around with with the ability to use more repeaters.

CB is plenty for your stated needs. It's also best for monitoring road conditions. Go to a CB shop [usually at truck stops] and have the radio tuned if you want a bit more range. You can add a linear amp for bigger gains in range, but it doesn't really sound like you need it.

You'll have better over all performance with an antenna centered over a ground plane [flat steel- the roof]. Those can be mounted by magnet or by drilling a hole. I like Wilson antennas but Firestick is fine.

If you want to talk to Europe and South America, then go ham radio.

This isn't my setup. I don't remeber where I found these pics. This is how I want to mount a CB when I get around to it. Doing more necessary things so haven't had time to get into it.

I had a bit of a issue that side tracked me. I'm back on finishing up the CB install. Hopefully my firestick / antenna will be here any day too

Here's what I need to figure out. I got the cable for the antenna run through the firewall.

1. I need to find a mounting solution for the antenna connection under the dash (female to female adapter that attaches securely behind console).

2. I need to figure out how to secure the antenna cable to the mount... ground to chassis as well? (link to video describing what I need below).

3. Possibly an additional wire run for a power plug to connect the CB out of sight behind the console. Simple little cigarette lighter plug.

I want the connections hidden but almost resemble factory if somebody looks.

Another thing you will want to do is adjust the SWR for your antenna once you get everything set up. You will need an SWR meter in order to do it. It will be important for your radio’s performance.

I'll have to get one an SWR Meter I don't know why I didn't think of this before. However...

The Body Junction Block, has an option for a cell phone antenna. My truck was no equipped with that option. However, wiring is intact on the C3 (Cell Phone 6 way) connector. I'd like to make a plugin that powers the CB through that circuit. I have factory service manual but cannot find the pin out for that connector.

Does anybody know the pin out for:

- Body Junction Block
- Connector C3 - Cell Phone 6 Way?

I'm certain I can easily obtain the connector just need to know where to populate it.
