I’m pretty sure I used a deep pan from Summit Racing. It adds about one quart. I was mostly interested in having a drain plug.

I have tried several electric exhaust cutout’s. The QTP (quicktime) lasted less than one day, and is built like a toy. The DMH is pretty good, but it has two problems. They use a machined lip on the aluminum body to stop the travel of the throttle type plate. There are no other stops on the movement, so after opening a few times, the plate goes past open, and begins to close on the back side, because of wearing the body stop.

It helps to have a tungsten halogen lamp in series with the motor to light up when it hits the end of it’s travel. At least that way, you know when to let off the switch.

The other problem with the DMH is the aluminum body will crack along the shaft from the motor, after it goes through a years worth of heating and cooling.

I use Doug’s Headers Cutouts. (link below) They just came out with a new model, that is different from the early version that I use. These guys make some serious cutouts. They are expensive, but you only have to buy them once. They are all stainless steel construction and will not fail. I still use a lamp in series with mine, just to have less wear and tear on the motors.

I never bothered to record the exhaust sounds, mostly because the turbos’s eat a lot of the sound, and it would never sound like any N/A engine.

I’m guessing you won’t want to spend the extra dough for the Doug’s headers version, so the second best in my opinion is the DMH.

How loud is your truck tho with them wide open? obnoxiously loud or pretty mean?

these motors aren't just a one push button for open and close?> you have to hold it? thats weak.

Hey thanks,

It is kind of a side project. It is the daily driver and tow truck, so it’s kind of a part time thing. Eventually I plan to see if it can keep up with the Camaro, but that is a moving target, because the Camaro is ready to break into the 10’s.

My next phase for the Tahoe is to round up the parts to increase the boost. I need the wastegate bypass electric valve, to up the boost from 12 psi. The software is in place to pulse the valve, so I just need to get the additional fuel pump in place to keep up with the extra demand for fuel when it starts blowing harder.

This engine setup, is capable of 1050 hp, and I figure I’m somewhere around 700 at the crank right now. I just want to make sure I don’t make any changes that will screw up the drive-ability. It is perfect right now.

I happy to see that Yukon turning in the 10’s. He also has a 383 with turbo, so I’m guessing if I make the right adjustments, I can get there too.

As far as the exhaust sound with the dump tubes open, It is loud but only about half that of a N/A engine. The turbo’s eat up a lot of the sound. I’ll have to record it when the weather warms up. :)

Speaking of awesome trucks. Do you have any vids of your truck making any passes?

Not yet, but I hope to get some this summer. Maybe the weather will cooperate this year, on weekends.

Hey thanks,

You have the perfect start. I’m kind of partial to white. It’s easier to take care of. I love black also, but don’t have the energy to keep it clean.

So what kind of plans do you have for yours?

electric fans, tune, CAI, catback, 285s when these tires are done. just drive it! i wasn't looking for a sport but now it's growing on me. maybe when this gets old and has a bunch of miles i'll buy something else and rebuild with 700 HP!
