axle end play question

I have, I'm guessing, about an 1/8 of an inch of axle end play I can feel when i jack the back wheels off the ground. This is a cold measurement when the truck has been sitting overnight.

Any thoughts on whether I should go into the diff...it's a 98, 5.7, 4wd, 140k miles. Stock 10 inch.

You don't say which direction, in and out or up and down??

yeah thats not a good thing! i have the same problem on my tbss . open up the rear and check for metal shavings. im scared shit with my tbss i feel like the axle shaft is going to shoot out like an arrow. do you have a posi rear ?

This one's a posi. I couldn't see a good reason to have that much end play but thought I'd ask...time to buy a gasket and have a look.
