Auto 4WD stuttering

2001 Yukon SLT, 5.3. Runs smooth in 2WD, however when I use Auto 4WD, I feel a stutter on turns and in reverse. Almost feels like I need a tune up and the Yukon shakes a bit. Best way I can describe it. Anyone experience this, and find a solution?

I moved your post in the 4wd section , The best thing I can think of is that your truck is coming in and out of 4wd while its selected

auto 4wd senses wheel slip and automatically engages the front differential . this being said when your in a parking lot taking turns and what not your tires are slipping a bit and the truck becomes confused . constantly engaging and disengaging the front axle.

are you hearing any noises ? is the service 4wd light illuminating

No noises, and no service light. Ill check my tire pressure, but I can't imagine that they are slipping, because it happens without my foot on the throttle as well (just rolling at a slow speed). The previous owner never used AUTO 4WD. Is it possible it just needs a good run in Auto 4WD? I don't want to damage anything. Thanks.

Well I don't know how sensitive the system is but say Im in a parking lot with it on and I turn sharply , I can feel my front end coming in and out of gear. With no noises its hard to say if anythings wrong to be honest and if the last owner never used the 4x4 I also doubt its broken are you getting the same feeling in the other 4x4 selections try the same things in 4x4 high range .

4x4 Low I would try on a dirt road

My friends did this when in parking garages...it was the auto kicking in as stated above.

Thanks guys. So is the Auto 4WD something that shouldn't be used daily? I'm wondering if there is a way to reduce the sensitivity

I personally wouldn't use it daily. Maybe in heavy rain or snow...but not in good weather. There will prob be some that say they run it all the time but my input is not too.

if you don't need the 4wd... don't use it. keep in it 2wd until you hit the white stuff or brown stuff whichever your preference.

Is it okay to have Auto 4WD active at highway speeds? Driving around in the rain today, I was tempted to put it on.

I've always heard that 4wd at anything over 30mph is bad. I'm sure someone else will chime in. I personally don't see why anyone would need 4wd for just your normal rainy weather

You can drive in Auto at ANY speed , Once you start driving in the different $x4 ranges is when speed is concerned I.E 4HI/ 4LO

If you want My Honest Opinion Unless your In Terrain that changes Very rapidly I.E a Dirt road on a rainy day ect… Or Know your going to get in a sticky situation There is Absolutly no need to have the vehicle in Auto selection . Because it does engage and disengage regularly at low speeds or fast take offs IMO its best to avoid using it as your just putting more wear and tear on parts that don't need to be replaced .
