A friend has one for sale, he said it's 4 months old. Are they any good, or easy to use? Would it be worth the 150 he is asking for it? Oh it's for my 01 tahoe.

Most guys on here are using custom tunes by Blackbear Performance...they are a vendor on the site and the feedback has been positive all around.

Do a few searches, it might be another option to consider.

Re: Hypertech - I've never used their programmers before but I have seen a few guys on here that have and they may chime in.

They are nontransferable unless you send it back to Hypertech and pay for them to reset it.

Once they are used they lock in to a VIN and can only be used on that specific vehicle.

Oh, and they're not worth the money at all. Barely any power gains and no gas mileage gains. If you really want a tune, go with a Blackbear.

I have been wanting a bb tune for a while now, but this hypertech came up on a trade for some subwoofers, so I was just wondering how good it would be. I thought you could remove the tune from the first vehicle and the use it on another?

I once had a Hypertech power programmer... for about 4 hours and then I sent it back.

It did nothing for the shift firmness or power gains.

its good once, many thing the info is still in there, it exchanges your stock info for the tune, and visa versa.

hands down, custom tune. :)

Had it, installed it, Uninstalled and returned it. It didnt do anything except the fact it gave you the ability to change Shift Points

Only if you send it back to Hypertech and pay them to reset it.

Not true! If the owner had set the ECU back to stock via the programmer, then the tuner is unlocked and CAN be used.

I bought a Hypertech via Craigslist that was used prior to me and I now use it for my Tahoe because the previous owner set his truck back to stock. The only time you send it back to Hypertech is when the original owner did not detune the ECU therefore it would be VIN locked.

With that being said, I never ran the BB Tune or road in a truck with one so I cant give my .02 on that but I have read great things about it. I like my Hypertech on the 87 Tune with shift firmness. It does what I want it to do and to me feels like a decent difference in HP and gain 2 MPG with my Exhaust and CAI setup. If it's a straight trade then why not and if you don't like it, sell it and get a BB Tune.
