It's all skinny Jeep trails, but there are a few places that a full-size SUV will fit, mostly power-line trails. I got pretty far down the side of a mountain one day, and had a fun time getting back up to the dry parts.

Made it up and out after some strategic use of WOT, and took a while to get all the mud off.

Anyone know the reliability of the front CV axles?

Somebody mentioned that they have had 3 break on them on their 08 in another forum. Which is a concern for me with AWD and if one breaks then you’re stranded, but I haven’t heard of anybody having issues with their CVs before

If the boots are allowed to rot and introduce dirt, the joints will soon fail. On my lifted Sierra, we had one with a bad boot and swapped in a spare and then somehow the other one just fell apart into pieces. I was laid up at the time and didn't see how it died. But that is a truck that has been lifted and rolling on 35s since 2013. I'd say we got our money's worth.

115,000 miles and 34" tires and still good (knock on wood!!) But I don't get on the throttle in tight spots or when I'm getting stuck. That would be a quick way to break something.

The one thing that keeps me from trying more challenging off road stuff is the lack of a skid plate protecting the fuel tank.
Don't understand why there is not one from the factory.

That's true, but road hazard could be a possible concern. What could happen if you're driving down the highway at night doing 100mph through Montana and hit a stray tire iron laying in the road.
Guess it's not a concern though as the wife's Z71 Avalanche does not have one if i remember right and a selling point was off road capable.

High torque and turning = damage.
This ^^^^^^ is the correct answer to CV axles breaking. Treat them normally and they will last the life of the truck. You can even drive spirited and they are fine.

Treat them madly, in a blizzard, stuck in a ditch, with the go-pedal down hard and cutting the tires back and forth for traction.......one tends to give up. Ask me how I know....... (2006 Sierra 1500 blew up RF axle when it caught pavement while spinning at God only knows what speed at that time) LOL

Luckily, if it's something you are worried about, they are the same for both sides and only take about 30 minutes to repair with basic tools. Throw one in the trail kit just in case. AND the correct axle nut socket (36mm?)

I just remembered something about what you were saying in the other thread about approach angles.

On this forum from 5 or more years ago, there were guys showing Border Patrol vehicles with cut down bumper fascias and then a bunch of Yukon guys doing it too for increased clearance. One guy did a YouTube video and did it to a 2500 Yukon XL or Suburban, don't remember.

This seems like overkill but it's good to know that I can escape to the woods if the zombie apocalypse ever happens
showing up for the line of jeeps behind him, otherwise what did he expect to happen? surprised all he broke was a wheel.
If he had eased up about 25% he would have likely came out unscathed for the most part

And if he would have stayed on the flat trail right next to the rocks nothing would have happened….;)

It takes off a few inches and makes a big difference.
