Hi.
I need to change out the alternator in my 2004 Tahoe as it has a bad bearing. I have to alternator on the shelf from a 2005 Tahoe. I was thinking that this was a bolt on swap, but they are not the same. The 04 is a 4 pin and the 05 is a 2 pin.
So my question is. Is it possible to make the 2 pin alternator fit instead of the 4 pin alternator?

What is the difference between the two alternators?
Why is one 4 pin and the other 2 pin?

In my case, the amperage rating went up from, I believe, 110 amps to 160 amps. I swapped because I plan on converting over to electric radiator cooling fans. Why GMC changed the pin config I don't know.

Did y’all ever figure this out. There are mixed reviews on amazon on that harness saying that it defaults at 13 volts. I have a 160 amp alt with the 2 prongbthat I would
Like in my 2004 with a 4 prong. Any solution or resolve? Alternatorman on YouTube has a video on it but it’s way over my lil brain.

My recommendation is stay Plug N play. No adapter harness. There are a few different ways this can be done- Correct OEM or aftermarket. Several OEM applications work reclocking, but why bother with that since correct clock is available.
The trick is figureing out Exactly what you have- Not just itsa cs130 or such. Truck config matters too- where do the wires go? And why. Lastly what are your Amp needs?

The difference between the 2-pin and the 4-pin is the regulator that’s built into the alt. They both get a signal back from the bcm and if it doesn’t it defaults to 13 volts which is barely charging, just enough to keep driving but it won’t charge the battery. You can’t use an adapter harness to get around this. The 2-pin uses a different technology than the 4- pin. You would need to swap the regulators on the alts to make them compatible which isn’t a diy hack.
