Hi everyone,

Please don't ask how... I somehow managed to lose all of my keys.

Fortunately, I still have one remote fob, so I can lock/unlock the vehicle and use the remote start.

The problem is that I live outside the US(Norway), and my local dealers and locksmiths don't have much experience with this type of issue on US-spec GM vehicles.

From what I've read, some companies in the US can cut a key from the VIN. I emailed Keyless Shop, but haven't heard back yet (they may be on vacation). I also found information saying that a 2009 Tahoe can learn a new transponder key using the 30-minute relearn procedure, as long as you have the correct key.

I've previously programmed additional key fobs myself, so I'm familiar with that process. What confuses me is that I keep reading about needing both the key code (for cutting the key) and the vehicle's security PIN. Some sources say the PIN is required, while others say the 30-minute relearn procedure is enough.

So I have a few questions:

  • Has anyone here gone through an "all keys lost" situation on a 2009 Tahoe?
  • Can a new B111-PT key simply be cut from the VIN and then programmed using the 30-minute relearn procedure?
  • Is a security PIN actually required, or only the key cutting code?
  • Can anyone recommend a reputable company that can supply and cut a key from the VIN and ship internationally?
One more issue: both front windows are rolled down. Since I only have the fob, I can remote start the vehicle, unlock it, and even see the mirrors move to the memory position, but I obviously can't turn the ignition on or operate the windows.

Is there any way to roll the windows up without a working key, or am I going to have to remove the door panel and power the window motor directly?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm not familiar with GM but Ford parts counters can cut a key with proof of ownership. You might contact your local dealer.

Edit -
Sorry, I missed the part that you are out of the country. Would local police department be of any help?

unsure. I'm more worried about the "programming" part regarding the key and security of starting the vehicle. Do not think the police department have any help here, but proof of ownership is something I can get from local authorities.
