Spoiler alert: some parts are ordered for DOD delete.

Now, I am trying to figure out if I should replace my timing chain while I’m in there. I don’t know if a replacement tensioner will help. Here’s the only video I have from when I had the pan off…

Any advice is welcome. I am leaning towards a new Melling HV oil pump with a new timing chain since it will be easy to replace while I am doing everything. There is a chance I’ll keep the pan on and not touch any of the timing/oil.

Timing chain set with the tensioner. I always do both sprockets, as they do wear. If you replace the VVT cam sprocket, pick up a new VVT actuator. It retains the sprocket and is torque to yield, one time use. Genuine GM for the actuator, Cloyes for the timing set kit.

Do you have thoughts on changing to the older style tensioner? The AFM kit I ordered has the older style.

It's my understanding that if you are keeping VVT you want the tensioner style chain guide as it keeps the slack out of the chain and helps to keep the timing more consistent.
If deleting the VVT the other style non tension type chain guide is the one to use.
Yes....

Good to know. I am keeping VVT so glad I also ordered the tensioner style chain guide...

Glad I asked lol..

Next question I don't know 100% if I need to do or not: do I need to block off the oil pan pressure relief? I ordered a plug just in case, and I am installing a melling HV oil pump, so most likely the pan will be coming off.
