I purchased on eBay the factory remote start kit for my 2011 SSV hoe. Today I took her to the stealership to get it activated. after about a half hour they said it was the ready,I asked if the remote start worked he said let's check. Well it didn't ,so the tech took it back to it the shop and after another half hour the service advisor said they called GM and that I will have to drop it off for the day. Said that since it's a former fire chiefs car it will take all day to program it . So I'll see what happens next week. Has anyone else had this same issue. Oh by the way it does have RPO AP8

Why didn't you just opt for a viper or CS Remote start? More options, Longer run times and more then 2 starts? :mexsmoke:

If you do not have AP8 your vehicle is not factory wired for remote start. If you have AP8 you can purchase from your gm dealer a remote start accessory which require the dealer to reprogram the BCM. I just got mine working today. I got my kit off of ebay and my local dealer programmed it. I had to leave the car with them for the day but it's nice option to have working. when you by the kit make sure it is new. don't buy 20 20.00 remotes and expect it to work, the paper work comes with a code that the dealer calls into GM for a specific VIN to get the code to flash the BCM.

Price of parts from ebay 225.00 List price 275.00 my local dealer would not come off the 275.00
labor 71.00 that will vary by location

I called the dealer and asked about the AP3 code "Remote Vehicle Start" meaning it was installed from the factory. She said that AP8 means pre-wired, and AP3 means the ""box"" is installed. She said it should have a key fob and guessed mine was replaced with a non-remote-start key fob at some point. New fob (#22951509) was $144ea with $30 programming should have it working.

She could have it wrong, posting as a check before i take it to the dealer or order the little fobs from amazon. Does the 30$ programming mean pairing these to the car i wonder?

Ok assuming you are correct about ap3, you should be able to buy a replacement remote for less than 50 bucks and possibly program it yourself using the dic buttons I'm not sure but maybe some one else can chime in

Do they match yours? Gotta check the numbers to make sure it matches.

I ordered the ones that matched my options. The fob i have is a 4 button one so Im not sure if it matches. I called the dealer, gave them my VIN, and they said i needed "22951509" and i searched amazon for it.

I don't think a lot of people realize they need to do this.

Maybe it's just me, but I'd MUCH rather just get a Viper 2-way alarm with remote start for about the same price. The labor would be a bit more than just programming a remote though. But since I know how to install those myself, it's easy for me to spend $225 on a good alarm with remote start and install it myself.

Does the Viper turn on the climate control or just start the engine?
Viper's can do climate control, roll windows down, alarm system, open doors if you have that, start with your cell phone or use the factory fob to start. not to mention start with more then 2 15 min runtime's lol

Edit: forgot to thorw contols heated and cooled seats/steering wheels in their too

id rather have the oem remote start. It does the climate control thing based off of outside temperature and the seat controls and so. Plus its integrated into the oem tcm.

Thats how the aftermarket Remote start distinguishes what the climate control does too, they have gotten soo intelligent in the last 10 years its scarry, they integrate with the BCM. i installed one a while back on a 06 3500hd Duramax, From his iphone he could start, see the out side and inside temps, idle up the engine, control hvac, seat heat and roll up and down the front windows. Not to mention the crazy alarm system.. bloody show trucks lol
