'99 Underhood lamp will not turn off

Does anyone know where the on/off switch is located for the underhood lamp of a '99 4Dr 2wd? Mine had not worked for a long time until I replaced the bulb a few days ago and now it will only turn off when I disconnect it. I know some of the other body styles had the lamps with mercury switches. Mine is the old style (see attached photo).

find the tilt switch, open it up and clean the contacts. yours may use a pressure switch upon the core support by one of the hood hight adjusters..

Thanks for the quick reply. I just came in from examining the entire hood area and I cannot find the switch. I pulled all the points made of rubber where the hood contacts the body and no switch. I have closely examined the hinges for the hood and cannot find any there either. Any other ideas which might help?

Uh yeah, there is no switch. turn it off by removing its bulb. it runs off the always hot horn fuse.

The switch is in the fixture.

Since I could not find a pressure switch in the hood area, I removed the bulb fixture and disassembled it. The fixture itself contains the switch. I followed the suggestions of ezdaar and cleaned the contacts and made sure the metal barrell would move freely inside the fixture. Now it all works fine. Attached is photo of disassembled fixture. Alright maybe I missed something but does not look like a switch.

The barrell shaped aluminum piece forms the contact between the bulb and the power wire. It slides within the plastic casing. As the hood is lifted, it forms a contact between the bulb and the orange power wire (pictured). As the hood is closed, it slides away from the power wire shutting off the light. I guess you could call it a gravity switch. Fragile design which is easily compromised by a little dirt.

Now I know why the guy who had my truck before me had taken out the bulb. I never got around to replacing it, but when I do, I'll know where to look if it stays on.

ok i have the same problem but i also have movable light thing that has the switch aswell... ive checked to see if the bulbs are bad and no... ive checked too see if the wires are bad but they are good and the both lead to the firewall bolt... i was wondering if i could rewire them to a different terminal and maybe it might work???

or where the hell is the fuse to the under hood lights? i found a fuse running from the light but its good...

it feeds off horn fuse.

Hello again my horn came on yesterday and would not turn off. It just burned out I guess
Now after new relay no hoorn or under hood light. What do you think it is??

Could be burnt wires or terminals. Just run a wire from battery then to light ..see if it works and I think there's a relay for the horn that might be bad.
