Does anybody know who makes the CD unit in the GM 10359577 radio in my 2004 Tahoe. Also is there a model number for this unit? I took it out of the radio to take a closer look, but don't find anything. Googling any of the numbers on the CD player doesn't do anything. I am trying to find out if I can find a new unit somewhere because the old one is not working. Attached is a picture of the CD player.

DDG.AI says Delphi/Delco for standard units and Bose for upgraded units...

"The GM‑branded 6‑disc CD changers used in 2004 Tahoes were supplied by Delphi (formerly Delphi Automotive / Delco Electronics) — Bose provided the premium-branded systems, while Delphi/Delco made the standard GM OEM units."

I once took apart my 2002 Bose 6 CD Changer when it wouldn't work. I found that spot lubrication was all that was needed. It was an exceptionally intricate disassembly and reassembly particularly because I took apart more than I needed to. That required me to re-index part of the reassembly.

Thanks Fless for the link. I did some research and found out that these units are made by Panasonic for many manufacturers. Just because they look the same will not work. They are not interchangeable. The versions that would work for my radio and year Tahoe are E9291-1 and/or E9060A-2 of which your link is one of them. So that unit would actually work. Today I did some cleaning and checking on the old unit to make sure that it's not just a loose cable or something silly like that and tomorrow I test it in the car again and if it still acts up I will jump on the one that you linked

I understand that some people want to keep their cars "factory". Just for your consideration, take a look at replacing the entire Radio with something from Kenwood. That will give you Apple CarPlay. You can import any of your CDs into a Mac and it will automatically synchronize with your iPhone. That way, you don't have to figure out which 6 CDs you want to have in your vehicle. You will have ALL of your music in your car ALL the time. I did exactly that with a 2005 Mustang GT convertible that I have. (Not for sale.) good luck!

ZKWBQD, I am tempted to do that when the radio itself goes bad. Does it mean it will put all my music on my iphone? My radio has an AUX port and I plug my ipod into it. All the CDs that I want to listen to are on that ipod, except the sound quality is not as good as the CD player. But what really baffles me is this. I have a spare 10359577 radio which has a problem with the FM portion and the CD player cuts in an out. My other radio, the one that's normally in the car is fine but the CD player also cuts in and out, just like the one in the spare radio. So I thought, ok, let's swap CD players and see what happens. The strange thing is, it's all the same. Both CD players do the same, they both cut in and out at various points while playing a song no matter what radio they are installed in. Same identical symptoms and yet it's very unlikely that both radios cause 2 presumably good CD players to act up the same way or on the other hand that 2 bad CD players have the same identical problems. I mean it could be possible but what are the odds? Does anybody know of an inherent problem or pattern of malfunction with these Panasonic players and/or 10359577 radios?

If you do replace your entire unit, inquire if the seller has the capability of adding your VIN # to the unit's memory chip. Without programming the new unit to your vehicle it may not stay on and/or produce no sound. If you opt for the new unit route, a GM dealer can also program it (pricey) or find someone with a Tech2 to unlock it.

I initially wanted to stay stock and purchased a unit from ebay for my '04. I did this knowing it would need to be programmed and sent to unit to CO upon it being received. The vendor in CO programmed it to my VIN for $50 + shipping but advised me the mechanism inside was worn and may fail soon. It failed within a month.

Eventually I installed a Sony unit with an interface that recognized all the steering wheel controls and stock Boze amp. The bonus was being able to have a back up camera and the entire appearance looks tidy.

Edit: I found the ebay seller that sells and unlocks units. It looks like this one might be compatible if you go that route - https://ebay.io/m/I98YyN

Honestly, you've been given some great advice to move on from CDs. I get it, you like them, but they are totally gone in the newer head units, both OEM and aftermarket.

Do the CDs skip when you are sitting in a parking lot? If yes, the CD players are definitely shot. If they only skip when you are driving, then their read ahead function is not working, meaning the CD player is still shot.

If you want good quality recordings to listen to, then rip the CDs that you like at the max 320 audio resolution, and save them to a stick drive. All newer head units let you plug the stick drive into them, and then you will hear CD quality music.

Thanks guys, I hear you. And I will move on and upgrade to something newer if the GM radio goes bad. Right now the radio is fine, it's the CD player that's acting up. It's not skipping. I can hit a pothole and nothing skips. It just cuts in and out, like there is a loose connection or it hangs up and sometimes it catches itself and keeps playing and other times it won't and then the display says initialize or something like that and ejects the CD. It does it on factory CDs, home burnt CDs. So it's not the CDs. The only other things that could be defective is the ribbon cable that connects the CD player to the radio but that will be a ***** to find because all of this is very intermittent.

TJ Baker, this CD player is hard to figure out. I am still trying to find the laser eye to see if it may need cleaning and to put a drop of oil in the right spot sounds like a great idea but I don't know where to put a little oil. I don't want to take this player apart in any serious way because it won't be the same after I get done putting it back together LOL. Way over my head. If you remember where you put the oil let me know. I will certainly give that a try

Let us know how this goes. I had similar problems with the head unit in my '04 and eventually replaced it. I don't need the CDs since I have my collection on my phone and can play through Bluetooth or via a flash drive.

Fless, you must have a USB port on your radio. My GM radio doesn't have any of that in its original form, but there were quite a few companies that came up with modifications and installed a 3.5 mm AUX port on the GM 10359577. My radio is one of those and I can use my ipod on that but for some reason the sound is not as good as the CD player. The flash drive sounds like a good option and when I upgrade to a higher tech Sony or Kenwood head unit which I am sure will come with a USB port the flash drive is the way to go. But then the ipod will probably sound better too when connected to a USB. Well, right now I try to get the CD player working right. Btw. I did order the unit that you suggested and I have high hopes it will finally solve the problem when it gets here. I will let y'all know how it goes

I replaced the changer in mine with the part Fless linked - bought via ebay but same company. It worked great. edit: https://www.ebay.com/itm/272193403351

Just recently went aftermarket as part of a phased upgrade with a Kenwood. I'm already missing the CD's but to get a Kenwood that can play discs and do Carplay is over double the cost.
