generally there are 2 options to achieve this...
1. small fan motors that just move air through the perforated leather
2. ducts that connect to the rear seat floor area, typically right under front seats point rearward, just a small offshoot duct that goes through the seat material.

not a stand alone system, specific to the seat

Through 2016 model year they are "cooled". 2017 onward they are "ventilated".

Thats the question .cooled by what ? A/c compressor and all that stuff or in truth just ventilated ?

Obviously it's not a separate system with it's own compressor etc. Pretty sure it has a fan under the seat and potentially a duct from the general AC system to direct cooled air to the fan to push it up.

my 17 does not have ac SEATS, BUT WHEN CLEANING... the rear ac floor duct stops right in the middle of the seat base.

i would guess as my 2013 had a fan motor that blew up through the seat. neve paid attention to the ducting stopping right there, but i now recall some days it worked better that others...probably when the wife selacted a blend of dash/foot output.

I kinda remember reading long ago that 16 had a a/c system and switched to a basic fan system in 17 would like to confirm that.

The main difference I see is that the 15-16 MY have vents or heat extractors behind the seat and the 17+ don’t.

It simply blows cooled air from the vehicles A/C ducts up into the perforated seats. There isn't a separate AC compressor/condenser/etc/etc.

Interesting ..then why are there heat exchanger mounted on the back of the seat.or so I was told...I think some duct work would be more efficient in maintenance but who knows...

Some cooled seats have a thermoelectric cooling device inside them. When it is energized, it gets cold and air moves over top of it bringing "cooled" air through the seat perforations.
The early generation of these were seen in the full size trucks starting with the 2007 model year, specifically the Escalade. The heated portion of the seat used the same thermoelectric cooling device, but they just switch the polarity and out blows hot air. Later models did away with this and had a more traditional heating pad on top of the seat foam. The cooling part still remained the same.

I'm guessing in later model years, they may have removed the thermoelectric device for cooling and just put plain fans in there to circulate the air.

That system seems to heat the inside of the vehical though with the exhaust air 0doesnt it?

@915_Tahoe what does the computer say for 2016 escalade front heated/cooled seat parts (peltier element or just a fan?)
