Planning on racing my challenger at a standing 1.5 mile event; it’s a long ride there and I don’t want to drive it all that way.

I have a 2015 Tahoe LTZ and am thinking about renting this uhual trailer:

That car is about 4500lbs. Will I have any problems?

My truck has the receiver under the bumper plastic cover that pops off and on the shift stalk has a picture of a trailer by the overdrive button.

I also looked in the glove box and there is the RPO code Z82 which from a search means it has a tow package.

However, this is what my hitch looks like. Where is the flat connector for the lights??? My f150 which I tow the most with has the round connector AND a flat connector.

you need to get a 7 way (round) to 4 way (flat) adapter for your trailer lights if you trailer has the 4 pin set up.

Yes I can do that.

Is it the way these trucks came even with the tow package not to have the 4 pin???

You can get that adapter at Home Depot, as I've bought one there for my small trailer, which has the flat 4-pin connector.

Most trucks have the 7 pin set up, not the 4 pin. That’s because the 7 pin is superior and can be used with heavier trailers. Both my Tahoe and Silverado only have 7 pin set ups. If your trailer has 4 pin, you’ll need the adapter.

My old f250 had both. 4 pins are usually for smaller trailers with low GVWR.

The adapter looks like this. The 4 pin connector is on the other end. Worst case they're on amazon for under $10.

The U-Haul trailer weighs about 3,155 pounds. They will not rent it to you if you tell them you are going to tow a Challenger with it.

The Tahoe should handle it ok. Better if she has the gears and cooling package, if not, slow down a little and she'll handle it ok as well.

I'd slow down anyway with the surge brakes on the trailer! LOL

Even Walmart has the 7 to 4 adapters in stock, the Hopkins one is nice with the LEDs to help troubleshoot should problems arise.

Thanks. How do I tell if I have the gears and cooling package? All I know is I have the z82 RPO code for towing package. Is there a seperate RPO code for the cooling and gears?

3.08 (GU4) or 3.42 (GU6)

KC4 = Engine Oil Cooler
KNP = Transmission Oil Cooler

I'm not as familiar with K2 RPO codes. For towing or heavy duty cooling, you may have codes K5L or NHT or Z85.

Z82 is for the trailer hitch.

Your owner's manual shows about 6,500 pounds towing capacity for the 3.08 gears (RWD Tahoe) and 8,500 pounds with 3.42 gears (RWD Tahoe). The 4WD Tahoe is rated 200 pounds less.

Better yet, if you have the integrated brake controller on the dash you have a complete hd tow package, cooling, gears and all. All tahoes, except ppv, have the hitch receiver on the truck and light hook up, but some only have that and no integrated controller. The u-haul trailer will have the 7-way plug because it has electric brakes. Tell them you are towing the lightest car you own because they may require proof, like regi or ins or something of WHAT you are putting in thier trailer. Years ago they didn’t care

No brake controller. But still wondering if I have the “better” rear axle and cooling? Or is that all combined in one package with the brake controller. I am just looking for the RPO codes.

I’ll look later today and take a picture of my sticker and post it.

I doubt he’ll have to worry about that. What if you’re going to use the trailer to tow a vehicle you are going to buy and do not yet have any documents for it?

When i bought my Jeep Cherokee , i rented the U-Haul trailer to go pick it up. They did ask what kind of vehicle i was towing with, but not what i was loading on the trailer. Even if they did ask, i wouldn’t have been able to show proof because i hadn’t bought it yet.

You only get the different axle and probably cooling too with towing package or Z71. According to uhaul the trailer is 2,210lbs so you're probably right near your towing capacity with a Challenger on it.

Uhaul trailers have 4 pin connector and surge brakes.

Every trailer i rented from them had 7 pin and elec brakes, unless you’re talking about tow dollys..

NY is a diff animal… required proof of what i was towing

Granted this was all 20+ years ago so maybe its changed
