2013 Tahoe SSV key fobs / remote control

Tried to find in the manual if you can have the car learn a new key-fob/remote. (Only one came with the car, probably a good idea to have more than one) The one I have is the 4 button one, lock/unlock/tailgate/alarm.

Is there a way to make the car learn a new fob/remote?

cool!! I didn't even know my car had a trip odometer. (just got it 2 days ago).

So basically, I could get one of these https://www.ebay.com/itm/2x-Keyless...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649 and have the car learn about them.

I'll have to look and see if it actually has an trip odometer reset button.

Ah, so that's how that programming is done.

Can the "oil change interval" be set there too? (I have a Jeep GC, that will let you set it to 2,500 - 5,000 miles)

I just got a chance to do that. It gives me the option to calibrate the compas, shows the tranny fluid temp, I can reset the trip odometer (which I did)... but I don't see anything at all about the key-fob. There s only one knob on the odometer cluster. I don't see any other buttons, for the 'DIC' on the dash board itself

Hm that's odd, sometimes for me some of the options don't show up if you're not in park. Looked at the 2011 Tahoe spec guide and it shows the message center and that key learning is part of it.

when you are scrolling thru there it will also show a % of oil life remaining, i.e. 30% oil life remaininf

I just checked an online "2013 owner's manual" it specifically says you cannot do it yourself and a dealer needs to do it. (which probably is annoying and expensive)

Which is why I love these fleet vehicles, you can do it yourself and save the money.

For the fobs, I bought mine off of Amazon, and they included a chipped key. Saved my $45 by having a local locksmith cut it for me.

I know on other GM cars in the past you could do your own fob programming. Then they took out that one little menu item and the dealers were getting $150 a shot for the fob work.

I believe the have gone back now and more of the newer models allow you to do it yourself.

I have 4. Would program one, cool it works. Then my other one didn't, reprogrammed, cool it works. Hey, my other one isn't working now..

I Actually read that in the manual, even at the dealer, they have to do them all at once.

Are you sure you are hitting the right steps, holding the button...?

I forget the details on mine, but a quick search shows:

1. Make sure the transmission is in park.
2. Push the trip odometer reset button until the display says "relearn remote key".
3. Push in and hold the trip odometer reset button for three seconds. This will display "Remote Key Learning Active".
4. On the key remote, press both the lock and unlock at the same time and hold them until you hear a chime from the vehicle.
5. If you have more than one key to program, repeat step 4. You can have up to eight keys programmed to one vehicle.
6. Once you are done programming all of your keys, press the lock and unlock buttons on the remote at least 3 times with the lock button being pressed last.

Ok, cool, I'll try that again. How long does step 2 take? I only have one mechanical button on the odometer/speedometer cluster. (it sits right next to the speedometer).
