I bought high mileage nice shape Yukon 174,000 all is good with motor except a random tick like a lifter but I have noticed it's louder when the volt meters charging hard. 14-15 volt . Could the alternator tick like a valve tick. Because after warmed up for while it goes away . It's very random when it does it .. any trick to run thru to clean the lifters up . I suspect it always had very short trips. And yearly vactions so build up might be a issue . Only guessing about last owner. Engine oil clean and clear and trans bright pink yet .

look for a missing or busted off exhaust manifold bolt. the rear end one likes to break first, then it can leak till the engine warms up. once hot no more tick.

I had three bolt heads broken off. I thought it was lifter tick at first. I didn't know the sound difference between an exhaust manifold leak and lifter tick. Fixed two with Dorman exhaust manifold clamps and the middle section with a single KAP manifold clamp. Things work perfectly.

Well very interesting there's 3 bolt heads missing on the driver's side way in the back . [emoji849][emoji15] How do I deal with that ?

I bought it as my towing rig . Need to work all bugs out. It's got the G80 and the GT5 4:10 my plan was as second rig and my winter rig and towing maybe 3000 miles a year . Right now it has 2 issues the tick and it needs new hydroboost and power steering hoses . I have bought in 2008 a 1999 Tahoe that was getting to rusty for towing but will be my plow rig . This looks like great forum ..
Thanks for replys .

Give them a call and they will help you out with the parts you need. Nice people. I believe the owner answers the phone. Personally I would take a picture of the broken off bolt heads and email it to him first so you are both on the same page.

Not sure how mechanical you are but two of them should be a easy fix. The rear clamp for the third bolt depending on clearance can be a chore. Took a mechanic something like 2 hours to get mine on. I’ve also heard it’s taken people 20 minutes so just depends on how much room you have. That and tools.

Are the clamps expensive?

What the heck is a "manifold clamp" ?? ( That's a new one to me)
New fangled broken exhaust manifold bolt repair kit - it's a bracket that gets bolted to the head, and over the area of the broken bolt, providing a new spot to clamp the manifold to the head. Saves the hassle of having to drill out the broken stub of a bolt, while the head is still in the truck.

Wow.... like a big tie-wrap.... amazing !!

( I'll search for what it looks like. )

Had I known there might have been something like this for a Ford 5.4, I might have saved A LOT of time and money and headache, instead of getting cheap-ass shorty headers that didn't fit well, and also having to get a new EGR tube ($$) because the original was rusted to the old manifold.

I'm learning about Yukon XL it's a SLT plus . It needs rear rust out panels and rockers need attention. Questions comes in to where is the heavy duty tranny cooler is.. it says it's supposed to have a external transmission cooler. It has the hydro boost and power steering fluid cooler . And where is the engine oil cooler . I found this Yukon XL and I figured it be good towing and project Yukon XL. I was doing some mud slinging 4:10 rearend for sure has locking rearend . I can put check in that box lol [emoji106]

The mystery I'm working on is where does power steering hydraulic vent ..where is it at ...because I take cover on power steering pump off and it pops . Like it's building up pressure in fill tank. Any pointers be great.

Found tranny cooler it's right in center in front [emoji15]
Does engine oil cooler hook to the radiator on the passenger side. I seen the power steering oil cooler in front external one on driver side in front of Radiator.

The tranny cooler is on the passenger side of the radiator. The auxiliary one is in front of you have it (sounds like you do). The oil cooler would be in the driver side of the radiator.

Ok so tranny fluid must go in to Radiator then to external cooler in front center . But I must not have the engine oil cooler . There's no fittings on driver side Radiator. But it does have the 2 big electric 2 speed fans and no fan on motor.
