new plate must be a curse, I swear I haven’t had REP in 5-6months. Had to pull over several times today in just 10 miles, simply clearing the codes wouldn’t work. Maybe I’ll convert to a cable TB, I freaking hate REP and have replaced everything.
Have you replaced the pigtail to the tb? How's the ground on the ds under the running board?

I have not replaced the pigtail but it looks great and I fear even well soldered splices could be worse that it is currently. The grounds all look great.

From what I’ve read lots of people running an X link have these problem intermittently. Theres a new method of using a bigger DBW TB someone wrote up over on PT.net, I might try that before I go cable or sell it.

The pigtail can look good from the outside, but it's known to suffer from small breaks in the copper wiring--meanwhile it looks good from the outside (insulation looks good). Something to consider.

I suppose that’s possible, today it did it to me at idle trying to leave my shoot range/cow pasture. I had to not just clear the code that would be to easy. I had to unplug the Xlink on both ends then turn to accessory, clear the code, then start the truck. And then of course it let me drive 10 miles and absolutely romp it with some drifts and hard 1-2 pulls

Went on a 1k mile road trip to help a buddy cam his Tahoe. 298k mile 5.3 with a truck Norris cam sounds fantastic! Sounds way choppier than my bigger cam, and seemed to have good power everywhere. Makes me want to recam this and add the Magnusson.

Anyway truck did great other than REP a few times and my AFR gauge possibly dying. I say possibly because it started readying 8-9afr at highway cruise. Seems preposterous but I almost feel like the truck was running weird when the gauge would do that. No way the truck slipped into a mega rich mode right? Never got more than 13.5mpg holding 70 the whole time ether.

I ordered the stuff to potentially fix my REP problem with a 99-02 throttle control module and 6pin-8pin harness. If that works, I’ll be planning to put the forged 370 I’ve had on the shelf for 5 years into this little sloot. Shoulder chop good, fix my oil pressure problem, and be a great candidate for my Magnusson.

Completed the supposed REP fix which deleted the X link and uses OEM parts. So far it seems to work, the test trip was a run to the liquor store in a severe thunderstorm. Worked great! Truck even seemed to run smoother but maybe that was the 40oz I slammed in the parking lot before leaving the store. Anyway, gonna drive this truck mostly for the next few weeks to see if it’s truly cured. Very hopefully

Went on a decently long road trip (3hours total) today and the first one since I deleted the X link……

No issues at all! Well none related to the Xlink. I did have my compressor decide to stop working at one point but it fixed itself when I parked and started it back up. Then I had the blend door turn to hot despite being on cold as soon as I got on the highway! Also fixed by a quick restart. I’m a little rusty are these both symptoms of needing that little control module circuit board thing replaced? Or is it two separate issues you think?

Also I was extra impressed with the no REP because I had a few miles of pretty bad dirt roads to go down. For some reason the REP always seemed to appear after a bump the road. Which is part of why I always thought it was ground relatedness but it did great! Picked up a new to my friend Honda Foreman rubicon 500. Pretty sweet quad, almost makes me want to get one again. Now I gotta add a second muffler to it, and drag out my little 4x8 trailer to modify so he can take it cross country on training exercises.

Awesome!

Yeah, trying to anyway. Will be much cooler when it's finished. At the very least, when its in my builders hands and not my responsibility.

Ahhh your playing project manager for the site work? I get so dang annoyed wrangling contractors at work, heck even the regulatory agencies that are supposed to keep me in check I seem to have to harass.

Totally unrelated to your house or my Tahoe but I am neck deep in fixing the AC in a quadriplegic buddies 2006 E350 with a 5.4. Awesome design, have to lift the motor several inches to get the compressor bolts out and apparently the compressors like to crack nearly in half for no reason. Anyway, it’s vacuuming down now and if it holds overnight it will get juiced and be on its way out my life.

Yeah, I'm handling the site work, since thats what I do for moneys, didn't see the point in paying someone. We're nearing completion of that.

That sucks on the ac compressor. Terrible design.

You're a good man to be helping him out like that.

Yea, terrible design for sure. About a year ago, helped my shop owner friend put a new Ford crate engine in my neighbor's 2006 F150 5.4 and was stripping the old engine for removal and found out quickly that access was very limited and best reached when engine was pulled up for removal. Before new engine was dropped in place, the a/c compressor was bolted on.

Ahh I was curious what your job was, I was guessing something that involved dirty holes but not the kinda machinery plays around in

Looks like it’s gonna be beautiful I hope you have a nice size garage planned.

You're a good man to be helping him out like that.

He’s probably one of the best people I’ve ever met, and helped shape my childhood in positive ways so it’s the least I could do. Plus he has a history of paying crack heads and idiots to mess his stuff up and it annoys me to hear about such problems. AC for him is literally life support as his body doesn’t regulate temperature well. He’s had to go into beer coolers at gas stations to cool off and stave off heat stroke.

To make it worse his ban has a dropped floor where they literally drop the entire floor a few inches and make it completely flat. In doing so all floor insulation and carpet is removed. Thank god he deleted his cats a few years back because where the cats were would get so hot it would burn your feet. Not a problem for a dude in a chair but when the AC did work normally it still struggled to cool the van off.

If you think the f150 engine bay is bad take a gander at the vans! It’s so small under the hood it’s practically worthless to even pop the hood. The dog house is awesome and makes accessing the back of the engine super easy. But for front accessory drive stuff it seems working from the bottom is easier.

Your so right tho the 5.4 dual overhead cam design is just a monster in size. Takes up so much space and is such a turd of a motor.
