Has anyone had the problem of their dashboard paint peeling off? I have a tan interior but the paint has started to peel quite a bit.

Has anyone repainted and reinstalled?

What are my options?

Purchase new dashboard?

Thanks,

Jason A

Common occurrence man. Mine's doing it too. Search around, tons of threads on this and how to fix opinions.

Just clean it with a degreaser, sand it with 600 grit to feather the edge out and paint with SEM color coat. I just did my dash today. Looks factory.

This whole area was pealed and worn.

Spray light coats. It drys quick. DO NOT hammer the paint on. You'll lose the factory texture in the plastic.

Wow that looks great. So they sell SEM paint in factory beige color?

Yes. Go to a local auto paint supply shop. They'll most likely have it. If not they can order the correct color. Just so you know there are 3 different pewter colors for our dashes

Thanks. The trick is to feather out the edges first with 600 grit paper. Some say you need to adhesion promote the plastic first... (i do custom paint/airbrushing for a living just for reference) and my experience if you just clean the surface well with a degreaser you won't have any adhesion issues. I believe the Color coat has a adhesion promoter already in the paint which helps.

You do that all without having to remove your dash? I'm contemplating doing this but I'm debating on whether I should remove my dash to do it or just leave it in?

I removed the bezel. And taped up the vents/radio areas. If you know how to spray you shouldn't have an issue. If u get overspray on the window it'll come off with a razor. I paint for a living so it was a pretty simple job.

Wow that came out looking great Jay. I may have to look into this SEM paint for mine as it has a few wear spots.

Jay, did you use SEM Graphite #15303 Color Coat to match the GM Charcoal dash?
