After selling the 96 Tacoma, for a tidy profit, the search is now on again for a GMT800 K1500 ext cab truck.
Must be rust free and so therefore likely from the PNW area. I know, I know, we had the 2004 K2500HD crew cab but that was just too much truck for my girl and she thought the 96 Tacoma would be ok but the reasons it was not, are documented in the For Sale-Sold section of the classifieds.
We found a 2001 GMC Sierra K1500 ext cab with a canopy on it with 151k miles on a 5.3. Had a 5th wheel plate mount rack in bed, so that told me it had pulled a 5th wheel at one time. The CarFax showed a transmission overhaul at 102k miles and a new fuel pump within the last 2 months to correct a long crank before start problem.
Problems found: driver's door hinge pins sloppy-I have done this door off repair before, d/s front exhaust manifold bolt broken-needs clamp kit and have done them before, crud ring inside the coolant reservoir bottle but fresh looking coolant in it, O2 sensor heater code in computer for bank 1 sensor 1. The usual nicks and scrapes.
They wanted $9750 for it and would come with a 1 year powertrain warranty. I negotiated down to $6800 and no warranty. I still passed on it. I wanted it at $5500.
It started right up, idled smooth, good oil pressure, charging system checked out, heater was hot and a/c cold. Tires at about 50%. We did not road test and I did not crawl under it.
So, if anyone knows of one that would meet the parameters, let me know. NO LIFTED TRUCKS!!!!!
