Hi guys.
Got following problem with my 5.7 vortec.
Started fine, drove out of driveway and she started back firing and smoking really bad, no power.
The fuel tank was a quarter full, by the time I limped it back into yard, fuel tank was empty.
Oil dipstick is 4 to 5 inches overfull now.
So I'm guessing the fuel went into the cranking case.
I'm guessing Piston rings are gone, or is there someway else the fuel can get into the oil ?

Strange that numerous piston rings went bad at same time. Do a compression test but may be pretty bad with failed compression rings. Any recent fuel system or engine work?

Only new cap ,rotor, sparkplugs and wires. Was going to change fuel pressure regulator and spider injectors.
Fuel pressure went right away to zero as soon as pump shut off.

If you had instant fuel pressure loss, I would guess a leaking or stuck open injector is washing fuel down the cylinder walls. Pull the plugs to see which one is wet or which cylinder is full of fuel. I wouldn’t try to start it again. Get the oil drained out as well. I’d fill and drain a few rounds of cheap oil down it to try to get the gas out.

Just saw your trouble and read it this morning. Do not keep trying to start that engine. With that much gas in the oil pan you are working on a bomb. Be careful.

Warning #2, with fuel dumping into the intake probably from a failed Spider you can hydro lock the engine and bend connecting rods. Pulling the spark plugs and studying them may show where the fuel was coming from.

Pistons rings are tough, they may be fine. Once you have good oil in it again a compression test can verify this.

There is only one way the fuel is entering the oil pan and it points straight at your Spider. I suspect a failed Pressure relief valve at the spider. One or two bad injectors would not drain fuel as fast as you reported it happened.

Any chance the oil level has been rising slowly over the past several days or weeks and it just happened to fail on this last drive.

Pull the plenum and turn the key on, you'll find the source of your fuel. Fix the problem, change the oil and motor on. Might want to shorten the next oil change interval but it should be fine.
