Oil Catch Can - Surprised By Results

I installed this oil catch can only 3,474 miles ago. It was installed 1,213 miles after the last oil change. I had not checked it until today when I did an oil change, and I was surprised to find that it was full, up to the treads! I can't imagine it was very effective if it was sucking in its own excrement. There was only a very small amount of "milkshake" at the very bottom of the catch can that was visible once I drained the contents. I use Kirkland Signature (Warren Distribution) 0w20, and this is a 2019 model year 5.3 AFM engine with nearly 69,000 miles. Thoughts?

You need to mount it lower. Gravity is your friend.

That would help probably yes, although the bracket provided is limited in regards to where to mount, and the hoses provided are short. Relocation would require some fabrication at the very least.

I'll have to check in 1,000 mile intervals and see what I find now. Of course this catch can is relatively small, and was the massive sum of $25.68 including tax. Although it did come with quick disconnect fittings so I did not have to supply anything as of yet.

I get milkyness in mine as well but not consistently. I've changed my oil multiple times since first finding it and the oil shows no sign of moisture or the same milkyness. So I have to assume moisture is making its way into the catch can through the fittings?

It's condensation. IMO it's weather and humidity dependent. But in the end the catch can is doing it's job on multiple levels.

I do know gravity is my friend, but I am not a physics major, can you tell us why the catch can should be mounted lower?
I have the same set up and I empty mine at 2,000 mile intervals, it is two thirds full.
As for the moisture milkshake, I get that in the winter only, low humidity in the desert.
And yes, the catch can is doing it's job.

I just checked my catch can way early this time, only 428 miles post-oil change, and was surprised to find a bit of what appeared to be fresh engine oil (looked just about the same as the oil that went in, no water.) I did not measure it out, perhaps next time when I'm expecting it. For the last oil change I used 7 quarts 0W20 Kirkland Signature (Warren Distribution) and 1 quart Marvel Mystery Oil.
