I did an oopsie... I was installing my amber work lights in my windshield and screwed up and dropped one... it fell and smashed my gauge cluster @.@ all the gauges still work but the plastic cover is smashed.

My question is, I have a Suburban 1500 with 5.3/4L60E, so it didn't come from the factory with a trans temp gauge. I'm wondering if I buy the gauge cluster for Suburban 2500 with 6.0L/4L80E it'll work fine?

I do have to provide VIN and mileage through work, so IDK if Dorman will accept that, but if they do, will everything work fine?

Alternately, if I buy a junkyard cluster, how can I fix the mileage? I know that at over 290,000 miles I'm being picky. But I take some pride in my high mileage truck and I don't want a lower mileage displayed.

just as long as you get the cluster off the same year of truck. Like 99-02 only work with 99-02 and 03-07 only work with 03-07. so if you find a cluster with trans temp gauge it will work no problem.

If I purchase a used/junkyard cluster how can I fix the mileage so it matches mine?

your best bet is a dealer but not sure if they could, when i got mine i tried doing it here at work cause i work at a dealer and wasn't able to even with a tech2. unless you send it out to a company that rebuilds them, and just ask them if they can program the millage you want if they can do it.

Your best bet is Digital Dash Solutions. They can build/program anything for the clusters. There is also a place in Wiconsin who has posted here. I forget the name, but could find it if you'd like.

Alternatively, you could buy a new cover, face, stepper, and needle and add it to yours if you can solder.

There is a thread here with instructions on programming the eeprom chip to turn it on, if you even need to, but being a 2001, you shouldn't.

I was under the impression that DDS doesn't do the early NBS dashes, but it would be worth checking. They did a great job on my '04 cluster, LEDs and adding the trans temp gauge.

Hmmm. I've never heard that before. I can't imagine why they wouldn't.

Thanks all, I just spent a bunch of money on a push bumper for the truck so the cluster is going to have to wait. But I wil hit up Digital Dash Solutions when I get paid $

No, I've found that nobody touches pre-2003 clusters. Different stepper motors. Modifying your own is easy enough; all it takes is a sacrificial circuit board from the junkyard to remove the mounting points and solder them in place on your board. You'll also need a stepper motor; can't remember which specific one. I posted the pictures somewhere on here.

I do pre 2003, so does a bunch of other partner cluster rebuild shops in the lower 48. Most any of them can do the programming for you on a junkyard cluster.
