    Complete Suspension Rebuild

No plans to race it, or hot rod it. We have taken it on road trips. I was thinking spindles up front. Airbags seem cool, but I figured it would be really expensive. I have one other project car I'm trying to get back on the road, then will start gathering parts for the Tahoe.

    Complete Suspension Rebuild

Hey All, So my 2000 Tahoe Limited is in desperate need of a suspension overhaul. The truck is all original with 208K miles on it. I've done a ton of work not that long ago, honestly it runs really well. But the steering wanders pretty badly and it rattles in the front over any bump. Many of...

    Feeling Accomplished

Mine is RWD. I still had to jack the engine a couple inches to get the pan out. Was pretty easy to do. The bolts for the motor mounts came out easily and lifted it to slide things in and out. I hear it is more involved for 4wd. It's not the worst job, but I feel is still a pretty big one...

Looking at Rock Auto they have some kits. But I'll probably end up going with mostly Moog parts. Have used a lot of their stuff and always find it to be good quality.

    Feeling Accomplished

Oh yeah. I have been working on my cars for over 20 years now. This one was just a huge accomplishment more so due to other activities. I have a garage full of tools I have used once or twice, and justified purchasing them based on how much I was saving not going to the shop. Most of the...

    Feeling Accomplished

Yeah, I do too. I almost took it to the shop to get the oil leak sorted. But, the quote I got back for a pan gasket seemed way high. And I wouldn't have had that other stuff replaced. Spent way less on parts than the shop was quoting for just labor. But I too try to avoid the...

    Theft Deterrent Options?

Lately, in my neighborhood there has been an up tick in car thefts, mostly larger vehicles such as trucks and SUV's. Currently, my OBS is blocked in by my daily driver, a 2003 Saab. But the Saab is for sale, and I may start using the Tahoe as the daily again. While it likely isn't the most...

    Feeling Accomplished

I know many others do their own work as well. But I'm feeling rather accomplished from the work done on my Limited. The truck has 206k on it, original engine and transmission. It had been sitting due to an oil leak at the front end of the pan. I was having trouble getting it to seal. Well...

    Sanity Check on Timing

I think you will have to drop the pan. In at least the corners, the gasket was likely put on with RTV. So there is a good chance you will damage the gasket when you take the cover off. Unfortunately.

    Sanity Check on Timing

Thanks for the added tips. I'll inspect the balancer. I didn't give it a good inspection when I pulled it off. I was planning on using a little bit of lube on both the crank and the harmonic balancer when reinstalling.

Thank you much. Time to continue buttoning this up and get it back on the road again. I miss driving the big boat ha ha

    Sanity Check on Timing

00 Limited, had 206K on it. Had it taken apart, the old chain had a lot of slop in it. This new one has pretty much no slop. The other one had like .5-.75'' of slack when it was on. I have a feeling I may need to get my timing checked with this new one ha ha Anyways, just looking for a...

    The "While It's Apart Repair"

I have only taken a car in for a repair a couple of times in the last 20 years. And that was last year due to the amount of work for the repair needed, not having the time to do it, and not having all the right tools (Engine needed to come out for some of it in my wife's Enclave). We have no...
