The factory sub is blown in my Tahoe and I don't feel like replacing it right now because I'm doing other work to it so is there any way I can disconnect it, like a plug somewhere?

Is your box behind the driver's side rear? If so, remove that panel and there should be a plug coming in from the wiring harness underneath to the box that you could disconnect the sub from the rest of the system. Or remove the sub totally as there will be 2 spade connectors inside the box to the subwoofer directly. If you haven't removed that panel before, there are 3 screws you need to take out before you start pulling. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Yeah man. Happy to help. Now just order this sub to replace your blown OEM one and you are back in business.

Seems like a good price compared to others, but is it an exact fit or do I need to do sone trimming?

I was looking for the thread, but can't seem to locate it. That Kicker gets good reviews on fitment. Depth maximum for mounting in the box is about 4 inches. Probably will not line up the holes exactly and guys just drilled it into the box where the existing subwoofer holes were. The sub should cover the box holes or you can silicone over them.

There is this JL 8 inch with mounting depth of 3 7/8 but more $$ and it is 4 ohm, whereas the Kicker is 2 ohm.

Should not need to trim anything with regards to the box, based on what has been relayed online.

I thought the factory sub was in the center console and the speaker grill in the back was fake?

Yes it's funny how they changed little things like this. But that 00-02 box will fit in the 03-06 models Tahoe/Yukon.

However, the Suburban/XL is the same style box, but bigger to accommodate longer body and distance from wheel well to back.

They will not fit each other due to the length.

Great advice guys. So my first small project while recovering from neck surgery was to install the Kicker 8' sub bass. I had to hog out the box for the sub to fit. The old dremel did the trick. Used some wood screws to secure the sub and in it went. The sound is great. Dialed it back a bunch.

I threw some 6.5 kickers in the front doors. What an improvement! Need to do the rears, but today the Android radio went in. There is such a big difference in sound quality using the phone's hotspot to get data to the Android radio vs bluetooth streaming from the phone. Night and day.

Between physical therapy and work, I'm one tired and sore guy. But it keeps getting better. Won't be long before I'm back to the Bentley sub project. This one should be crazy.
